Food Poisoning?

Been gluten-free for almost 7 weeks now (no diagnosis), and I have noticed a rapid improvement in my neurological and immune system issues. I had an episode this weekend that I don't think had anything to do with getting glutened, but I just want to get some opinions.

I began having severe D (normal color) on Saturday. I took some Pepto and Immodium on Saturday night, which slowed everything down until Sunday morning. Sunday the D wasn't as bad, but my stool was black. Monday it was still black and my stomach felt crappy, so I went to the dr. CBC was normal, which made me feel much better about it. Tuesday stools were half black/brown, no D. Today, everything is back to normal.

My reaction was much different than when I have been glutened - no brain fog and the D lasted much longer. I am guessing that the Pepto caused the discoloration in stool, but I just wanted to get some other opinions. It really felt like food poisoning to me, but I wanted to throw it out there and see what people think.

Thanks.

I agree that the Pepto probably caused the discoloration.

I don't know if it was food poisoning or gluten, I don't know that you can really tell. I know that I did become more sensitive to it once I got off it. I also have reactions that vary.

The pepto did cause the dark stool, that is a common side effect. What form of Immodiun did you take? The liquid is definately not gluten free and the only one they have tested for sure is the caplets so make sure they are what you take when needed. Did you have a fever? If you did it was most likely food poisoning as that will result in at least a low grade fever, but usually fairly high, as your body works to kill the poison. If you had no fever than I would suspect gluten either directly of from CC.

I believe I had gluten by accident a couple of weeks ago. Been having headaches, weak, feel wonky. Does anyone else get ringing in the ears??? Thought I had a sinus or ear infection at first, but antibiotics have done nothing.

It can take a couple of weeks to get over a glutening. I do seem to get 'stuffy' ears when glutened along with a bit of the ringing, I think it is a result of the inflammation. Doctors can usually tell when you have an ear infection. In which case they would prescribe antibiotics. Do make sure the ones you got were gluten free. If you took 'left over' antibiotics then I am going to slap your hands over the computer. You should never do that. If the ringing continues do check back with your doctor as there can be more than one cause of it.

For me,,ringing in the ears is a reaction(one of many ) to ingesting soy, but I would imagine it could also be a reaction to gluten

I was taking medicine for sibo but it was not agreeing with my stomach at all.Was on gabapentin but it amps me up.I was taking in morning because it wasn't allowing me to sleep. This has always been an issue with medicine and me.Even going to dentist, the good shot that numbs you once, I can't take because it makes my heart beat fast and I  get the shakes.I have to take the crappy stuff and get injected always more than 4 times always. Its infuriating

If you successfully digest gluten with enzyme supplements so it won’t give you side effects, your challenge won’t be worthwhile because the digested fragments of gluten also won’t stimulate antibody production or cause intestinal damage.

You can search this site for prescriptions medications, but will need to know the manufacturer/maker if there is more than one, especially if you use a generic version of the medication: To see the ingredients you will need to click on the correct version of the medication and maker in the results, then scroll down to "Ingredients and Appearance" and click it, and then look at "Inactive Ingredients," as any gluten ingredients would likely appear there, rather than in the Active Ingredients area. https://dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/dailymed/
