Does anybody have this problem???? I have been eating gluten, wheat, soy and chocolate free for 2 weeks now and I have not been tested yet...I go back to my gastro guy Wed. to do a follow up and be referred to a specialist. Anyway, I go along for a couple days feeling fine then all of a sudden I eat a safe food and I feel sick, body ache, etc. Then it takes a day or two to get back to normal......I assume it just takes a while to get out of your system????? HELP!

Are you sure the food is safe and not contaminated in any way? If it was peanut butter, did anyone else use the pb on bread? Same with mayo? Did you eat out -- that's a common source of contamination? Was the food processed? Some aren't from dedicated facilites. Was there any chance of hidden gluten? Soy sauce? Does your makeup have gluten in it?

I would suspect since you've been off it for such a short time that there's some gluten hidden somewhere. It's pretty insidious and difficult to get rid of!

I'll try this again.........lighning storm about.

You are not healed. Even though you have been gluten free, the damage is done and it will take some time to heal. If you continue on the gluten free diet (including, lotions, shampoos, lipstick, cosmetics, any potentioal oral injestion), you will gradually feel better.

The healing process will take some time and you need to be patient and diligent. It will come.

If you have concerns over certain products, please ask here.

Doctors are now just learning about how prevelent Celiac is, but you have come to the experts. Please read, read and read somemore, here. This is the best source there is.

Please post if you have questions, that's why we are here. Experience is Knowledge.

Lisa:

I saw your other post,...lots of Lisa's here.

If you are going to see a specialist, do NOT go gluten free. I am sure that this will cause you alot of discomfort. In order for you to have an accurate testing, you MUST remain on gluten. If not, the result will not be accurate.

On the other route, you could become gluten free and see how you feel and if you feel better after a period of time...well, there is you answer. Others will post by morning.

Take care and I hope you feel better. Lisa

My symptoms have been dianosed as so many other things...acid reflux, gall bladder.....then they did all the test, put me on medication and still nothing.....I get very sick to my stomach and then I ache all over and sometimes pass out......it was causing me to not be able to live my life. I even had to cancel a trip to Africa this year because I did not know what was going on with me...so I decided to try the wheat gluten free thing and then ate something that made me sick and found out it had soy it, so I ate soy again a couple days later and got sick again, so I knocked that item out as well and chocolate. Even if the test don't show allergies to foods, I am still going to continue because it seems strange that I only get really sick when I eat certain things. Within 5 or 10 minutes of eating an item, I get sick. Then it takes a day or two to recover. Thanks!

If this isn't a typo:

Why blame the safe food - I would think that the 'safe food' is pretty irrelevant in this. You have been eating gluten and it has built up, if you were gluten-free before then it takes a certain amount of time for the damage to build up and start some of the peripheral symptoms. (I feel sick, body ache, etc. )

Thank you so much! I saw some tips around the forum to make a food diary and now that I know that the community also struggles with corn, egg and soy, the puzzle pieces came together! Just yesterday I tried eating eggs and yes, he’s guilty and charged. Those there are my 3 combo nausea troublemakers. I’m going to adjust my diet ☺️ Also thank you for the information about MCAS! I’m from South America and little it’s talked about it in here. It’s honestly such a game changer now for treatment and recovery. I know I’m free from SIBO and Candida since I’ve been tested for it, but I’m still going to make a endoscopy to test for H. Pylori and Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). Thank you again!! Have a blessed weekend 🤍

Yes, I, too, have osteoporosis from years of malabsorption, too.  Thiamine and magnesium are what keep the calcium in place in the bones.  If one is low in magnesium, boron, selenium, zinc, copper, and other trace minerals, ones bone heath can suffer.  We need more than just calcium and Vitamin D for strong bones.  Riboflavin B 2, Folate B 9 and Pyridoxine B 6 also contribute to bone formation and strength.   Have you had your thyroid checked?  The thyroid is important to bone health as well.  The thyroid uses lots of thiamine, so a poorly functioning thyroid will affect bone heath.

That sounds so very likely in my case! I will absolutely ask my doctor on my next bone check coming up in March... Thanks a lot!

Calcium levels as measured in the blood can be quite deceiving as the body will rob calcium from the bones to meet demands for it by other bodily functions. Also, supplementing with calcium can be counterproductive as it tends to raise gut pH and decrease absorption. More often than not, the problem is poor absorption to begin with rather than deficiency of intake amounts in the diet. Calcium needs an acidic environment to be absorbed. This is why so many people on PPIs develop osteoporosis. The PPIs raise gut pH. And some people have high gut PH for other reasons. Low pH equates to a more acidic environment whereas high pH equates to a more basic (less acidic) environment.

Kind thanks for all this valuable information! Since my Folate was/is low and also my Calcium, there IS a chance I am low in B vitamins... My doctor only measured the first two, oh and Zinc as I has twisted her arm and guess what, that was mega low too. So who knows, until I get myself tested properly, what else I am deficient in... I did a hair mineral test recently and it said to avoid All sources of Calcium. But this is confusing for me as my Ca is so low and I have osteoporosis because of this. It is my Adjusted Ca that is on the higher side and shouldn't be. So am not sure why the mineral test showed high Ca (well, it was medium in the test but relative to my lowish Magnesium, also via hair sample, it was high I was told). But anyway, thanks again for the VitB download, I will look into this most certainly!
