Epilepsy, Seizures, And celiac disease

My daughter has seizures and someone had posted on one of these boards an address that took me to an article about seizures (epilepsy) and celiac disease. I had put it at the bottom of my computer but being rather computer STUPID (as you can probably tell from what I am writing), I deleted it. I really would like to find that message/article again as my daughter has been dealing with seizures for about 15 years. They are not like most seizures, very hard to locate in the brain, and are very difficult to keep under control and stop once they start. I have looked to no avail using the SEARCH. I have searched for both epilepsy and seizures and have not been able to find the article. PLEASE, if you can help me I would appreciate it. I am a celiac but my daughter is adopted so there is no genetic link.... We all know how one's life is turned upside down from difficult to diagnose diseases. It seems that the seizures control her life..... We know how that feels since Gluten controlled our lives until we understood what was happening to us. I would like to get the article to her so that she can read it and give it to her neurologist! THANKS!!!!!

If you look about three threads down on this forum page "Research and Related Disorders", you will see a recent thread that I started "celiac and seizures" inside of it are several links to helpful sites and references (along with some very interesting and useful information). To go to any of the links, just click on them. They are great! And the personal stories are very encouraging. :) Hope this helps! -Julie

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
