Think I Might Have Been Glutened....

I am not feeling well, and the only thing I might have eaten that could have done it is chocolate covers almond toffee. I didn't even think about it and I sure am hoping that this is just stress.

Any thoughts, or knowledge is greatly appreciated!

I hope someone answers this post definitively.

I love toffee.

It probably, like everything else in this gluten-filled world, depends on what KIND of toffee....

The Clan Thompson Smart List says dove choclate is gluten-free. Toffee should be gluten-free, there is no reason for gluten to be in there, it cooks at way too high of a temperature (my mom makes it at the holidays). I'd be more concerned about the chocolate part, although it appears to be safe. I'd call the company tomorrow and ask.

Thanks, I will. I looked all kinds of Almond-Toffee recipes and I didn't see any mention of gluten. The toffee I ate was a bulk store brand from Cental Market. I will give them a try tomorrow!

Bulk bins are major MAJOR cc hazards. Could that be the case?

It could be. To be totally honest, they have signs saying that they can't garuntee that there are not any allergins in the bulk area. I have eaten stuff out of the bins for the past 8 months with no ill affects, but maybe I have just been lucky!

Toffee may or may not contain gluten depending on the ingredients, manufacturing process and - in the case of bins - how it's stored. <_<

You can damage your small intestine and irritate your immune system without noticeable symptoms, that is until they catch up to you. Subtle signs of vitamin deficiencies and latent autoimmune disorders can crop up weeks, months or years after the exposure.

Hershey's Skor is gluten-free. Also Newman's Own Organics Butter Nut Crunch bar, Fannie May Toffee bar and Cloud Nine Butter Nut Toffee bar.

This is really helpful  I had not considered sugar alcohols or inulin as triggers. Thanks for the practical baking tips too color coding and baking G F first makes a lot of sense. Thiamax (TTFD) plus a B-complex, and if you want benfotiamine, the Life Extension formula covers that at ~100 mg.

High fiber can definitely cause sudden GI distress especially if it’s a new addition but accidental gluten exposure can feel similar. Keeping a simple food/symptom log and introducing new gluten-free foods one at a time can really help you spot the pattern. Thanks for asking  I’m mainly looking for gluten-free staples and snacks. Any recommendations for brands or go-to items would be appreciated.

sorry a bit confused so I should take my B complex along with Objective Nutrients Thiamax for TTFD but what about a Benfotiamine to take. The Life extensions contains Benfotiamine and Thiamine together or im confusing myself. I am trying to see if I take Thiamax what should I take for Benfotiamine. Thanks EDITING after further research I see ones water soluble ones fat soluble. So I guess 100MG as you suggested of Life Extension contains Benfotiamine and Thiamine Hydrochloride. and the Objective Nutrients Thiamax contains TTFD.     would work for me.

I put on over 12kg by eating protein with every meal, 3 to 5 times a day. Eggs, Chicken, Tuna, Turkey etc. I stay away from too much red meat as it can be inflammatory. Scott is correct. I've come across a bunch of Coeliac PT's on Tiktok and Instagram. They all say the same thing, the key is getting enough protein and consistency.
