General Mills

Over the summer I realized that General Mills was no longer including wheat in their ingredients for Cocoa Puffs and Trix. My son was so excited. He does not eat them everyday but it is nice to have some options other than Fruity Pebbles, Cocoa Pebbles, and all of the ones I buy at the health food store. He would sometimes eat them dry as a snack. So I noticed last weekend that they just put the wheat back into the formula for both cereals (cocoa puffs and trix). I was upset because his non celiac brother loves them too. So I e mailed them and asked for an explanation as to why they change their formulas so frequently and it would be nice if a major cereal company could take a stand and keep something gluten free so that celiacs and wheat intolerant children had something to enjoy as well. Well they responded today with an explanation of how to determine if gluten is present on the ingredient list  . As if I need them to tell me how to find the gluten. So I wrote back again telling them that I find it insulting that they simply danced around my question rather than addressing it with an answer and that I will be giving my business to post. I know they won't care but it is just so frustrating. I am sure they have not had to tell their child for the second time that they can't eat something they love. Obviously those particular cereals are not a must but it is nice to have as a treat. Just needed to vent.

I just emailed them a nasty-gram too. I see no value-added to the "malt flavoring" (from barley) that all the cereal mfg's love to put into the recipe. The only thing I can come up with is that they want parents to think the cereal is lower in sugar and kids to taste it as sweeter. Malt flavoring maybe adds to the sweet flavor and so they keep the kids AND parents happy? If so, that's a deceptive practice that I really object to.

Cereal IS what it IS and if it's sweet, it's sweet, no need to hide it. We don't need so much sweetness in our diet anyway!

The Cocoa Puffs and Trix tasted EXACTLY THE SAME without the gluten-stuff!

I get SO AGGRAVATED about this issue......GRRRRRHHHHH.

I just bought two very large boxes of cocoa puffs because I read the ingredients, and no malt was listed anywhere. It still makes me nervous to use it after reading your threads. I did buy them at Big Lots, so maybe they are leftovers from the "days of Old"??

if the ingredients don't list it then it's safe... (triple check the ingredients list though because it can be easy to miss)... but yeah, Big Lots could have some of the old stock that was pulled off shelves to make way for new formula... (speaking of, I may have to check out Big Lots tomorrow!)...

I found plenty at my local store today, they were just the REALLY FAR BACK boxes.

I hope you find some at Big Lots!

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
