Okay.. I realize this may be allready an old question and story.(HISTORY ) My baby is 1 year.. at 4 months he caught ROTO Virus... had it really bad,, had to be hospitalized. Okay went back to feeding him cerals .. Vomit at 5 months each time he was fed cereal... went to specialist .. and was tested for Celaic .. CAME UP NEGATIVE..( QUESTION) okay.. NOW here is the part I need help with .. He vomits two hours exactly after an exposure. No stomache problems .. no loose stools .. Just vomit... Now the specialist has said .. keep trying the foods again. I did and through much pain and guilt . same result .....4 cheerios caused this baby to vomit like a bad night on the town. and its the same each exposure. One baby sized half spoonful of oatmeal peaches and banannas casued the same reaction. His diet has been at 1....... free of wheat. now ... do I really make him sick... trial him as its put.. BUT If I am pretty much keeping him clear of the wheat he is going to NOT show a allergy right. He is not showing some of the symtoms that a lot of people are talking about.. I am confused becasue there is alot to this disease and I know its trial and error... But he vomits ... test negative and is free of the baby stuff with wheat ,, Does this sound like Celiac or some thing else.. I am sad and depressed .. Here is one more question ... every one in the faimly .,.. parents aunts .. brother .. all get runny stools after eating out.. they thought for years its due to "greasy foods" But say eat leftovers of the same foods the next day and no runny stools... say thanksgiving.. or pizza the next day.... ( i put off the endoscopy becasue its not going to show anything becasue the baby is only vomiting when I fed him the "wrong foods" ... help

I agree with Matilda.

Our baby is free of wheat, barley, rye, and oats. He's never been tested, but it was obvious that those foods were making him sick. His pediatrician feels he's too young to be tested reliably. And, that's fine - we'll go through gene testing when he's older. But, as it is now... he simply isn't fed foods that I know make him sick.

I think that would be the best way for you to see results. Simply keep him free of the foods in question, until he's older and can be tested accurately...or trialed in a safe environment.

It also sounds like he could have an issue with reflux. Obviously... I'm not certain, but it's a thought.

"He vomits two hours exactly after an exposure. No stomache problems .. no loose stools .. Just vomit... "

-My daughter had vomiting as her only symptom of Celiac... her blood score was a 73 and 115 so it was CLEAR she had Celiac but still vomiting can be the only sign.

"Now the specialist has said .. keep trying the foods again. "

-I had a hard time feeding my DD gluten before her endoscopy because basically it went against all of my maternal instincts... I didn't know her blood results until after the endoscopy because we were pushing it through (long story as to why but it was the less evasive procedure compared to what we thought it might be becuase of family history)

" BUT If I am pretty much keeping him clear of the wheat he is going to NOT show a allergy right."

-IF he has not gluten before an endoscopy its not going to show anything conclusive... babies (my DD is 19 months old) heal really fast her symptoms went away with in a week. So if you are planning on doing other tests I would keep feeding him gluten.

"He is not showing some of the symtoms that a lot of people are talking about.. I am confused becasue there is alot to this disease and I know its trial and error... But he vomits ..."

-Thats the crasy thing with Celiac symptoms are different with lots of people. My DD's GI doctor said she was the only patient she has ever seen in 20 years of practice that had vomiting be the only sign/symptom of celiac... but that is what she had... so if she had gone just by what people said... we may never have known!

My advice to you is to go with what your gut tells you....Mine always leads me in the right direction when it comes to my daughter, So I'm sure yours will too!

thanks everyone for the answers..... I have been reading almost the whole web site... The thought of having Celiac disease... is scary... He wants to eat regular food.. But I think that through reading all this .. My middle son has sensory intergration .. Or POS NOD .. Non specific AULTISUM.... and they say there is no link with type 2 diabetis .. my dad is a type two but his cousins were 1's.. and the runny stools after eating out..

But thanks for the support... I know that at some point I am going to have to be tested...

BUT if I keep my child happy with the rice products... he is growing gaining weight ... He only throws up after he eats an offending food... he doesnt have vomiting any other time... not even after bottles. I have heard people say Acid reflux. But I am not getting that .. not to be a total lame brain but why acid reflux... because of the vomiting... ( I am slow.. LOL ) thanks to everyone .

Testing is going to be extremely inaccurate since your son is so young. (Which is a good thing - it means he's too young to have much damage yet). You might want to get the enterolab genetic testing done. If he's got the gene and wheat and oatmeal makes him vomit, I think you have your answer. I don't have any kids, but if I did I don't think I'd be able to feed them wheat knowing it will probably make them sick. Maybe your doctor is thinking it's one of those childhood allergies that he'll grow out of, but if it's celiac he's not going to grow out of that. Go with your gut feeling and stop feeding him wheat and gluten. I'm sure he'll be much happier and healthier for it.

has he been tested for a wheat allergy and oat allergy separate from a gluten intolerance? (as in, he could then have barley or rye)

My opinion is, don't make your baby sick!

I figured out on my own what was wrong with my son, when he added vomiting a couple of hours after eating to his chronic diarrhea. But when I nursed him, he didn't throw up. And we have a family history. He also had dermatitis herpetiforma.

So I took him off the gluten to the best of my ability without getting much medical help. He got better, but it was slow. He did start talking again, and walking (he was 15 months when he started the vomiting). At 18

months, his pediatrician did a blood test for the antibodies. They were extremely high. He sent me to a pediatric gastroenterologist. We got in around 20 months old. He was still having diarrhea 2 or 3 times a week, but was now talking up a storm. The new doctor wanted to put him on the gluten again to do the biopsy, and I refused. She'd told me that it would take three months of "poisoning" him, then do the test, then six more months until he really got his guts cleaned out again.

I told her I wouldn't do it. I didn't care if it was the gold standard diagnosis. I refused to make my baby sick. She said she thought that was a good idea, but maybe at 3 or 4 we could do the tests. I said sure, but in my mind, I was thinking no way.

He's seven now, and I still haven't done it. I never will, unless there's a dang good reason. He can do it when he's a grown up if he wants to.

See I am not sure we took a test that was 400$ from a lab in California... It was for Celiac. I am trying to put this all together .. SO when I go back to the doctor , I have a plan of defense. With my hesitancy to keep feeding him these foods... My tests are probably not going to show any allergy .. because I have not given him anything but rice.. to substuite for the grains. But in a moms opinion ... 4 cheerios caused some heavy vomiting. I have found that the more yogurt I give him ... the vomiting isnt as violent or as much. Its the Yo baby yougurt form stonyville. god bless them ...

I just need help from every one... Ihave no clue what to do... what to tell the doctor , I AM seeing a specialist in St. Petersburg fla where we are. He said re feed and see if the stuff still makes him sick... I argued... held off and held off .. then let him have cheerios. ( but I questioned it as I did it. becasue I read the ingreadients... and oats do make him ill... has anyone had luck with rice crispies. thanks to any one who spends the time trying to help me figure out this problem . it is appriciated... from the bottom of my heart.

BUt by then they will have better tests

My son also lived on yogurt and breastmilk--thank god I hadn't weaned him yet!

Rice Krispies are tricky, because if he's got celiac, you have to watch for malt flavoring--that's made of barley. If it's an allergy vs. celiac, then it doesn't matter if he has barley.

Not all brands of rice cereals have barley in them, disguised as "malt". Watch the labels.

Definitely get vitamin D 25(OH)D.  Celiac Disease causes vitamin D deficiency and one of the functions of vitamin D is modulating the genes.  While we can survive with low vitamin D as an adaptation to living in a seasonal environment, the homeostasis is 200 nmol/L.  Vitamin D Receptors are found in nearly every cell with a nucleus, while the highest concentrations are in tissues like the intestine, kidney, parathyroid, and bone.  A cellular communication system, if you will. The vitamin D receptor: contemporary genomic approaches reveal new basic and translational insights  Possible Root Causes of Histamine Intolerance. "Low levels of certain nutrients like copper, Vitamins A, B6, and C can lead to histamine build up along with excess or deficient levels of iron. Iodine also plays a crucial role in histamine regulation."

I forgot to mention my suspicion of the high amount of glyphosate allowed to be used on wheat in USA and NZ and Australia. My weight was 69kg mid-2023, I went down to 60kg in March 2024 and now hover around 63kg (just after winter here in NZ) - wheat-free and very low alcohol consumption.

Hi Jess Thanks so much for your response and apologies for the long delay in answering. I think I must have been waiting for something to happen before I replied and unfortunately it fell off the radar... I have had an upper endoscopy and colonoscopy in the meantime (which revealed 'minor' issues only). Yes I do think histamine intolerance is one of the problems. I have been lowering my histamine intake and feeling a lot better. And I do think it is the liver which is giving the pain. I am currently taking zinc (I have had three low zinc tests now), magnesium, B complex, vitamin E and a calcium/Vitamin C mix. I consciously think about getting vitamin D outside. (Maybe I should have my vitamin D re-tested now...) I am still 100% gluten-free. My current thoughts on the cause of the problems is some, if not all, of the following: Genetically low zinc uptake, lack of vitamin D, wine drinking (alcohol/sulphites), covid, immune depletion, gastroparesis, dysbiosis, leaky gut, inability to process certain foods I am so much better than late 2023 so feel very positive 🙂

Hi and thank you very much for your detailed response! I am so glad that the protocol worked so well for you and helped you to get your health back on track. I've heard of it helping other people too. One question I have is how did you maintain your weight on this diet? I really rely on nuts and rice to keep me at a steady weight because I tend to lose weight quickly and am having a hard time envisioning how to make it work, especially when not being able to eat things like nuts and avocados. In case you have any input, woud be great to hear it! Friendly greetings.
