Anyone Have Problems With Corn Tortillas?

I have had some good times lately. I figured out I had been eating soy in my vitamin pills all summer and once I stopped..well I had some bad days and then it felt so good.

Now I got sick again. I ate corn tortillas the other day. While it says they are gluten (and soy) free they aren't made in a dedicated factory. I seem to be sensetive enough to need that.

Well I was very naseaus the whole night and had bad diarrea the day after (yesterday). Head ache and today I feel out of it. A bit of heart burn. Feel uneasy, like I always seem to do with getting glutened/soy'ed..

I don't think I have problems with corn. Hmm.. I am wondering if anyone else have a problem with eating Corn Tortillas? The regular ones in the normal Grocery stores. The ones that says Gluten free.

I don't always trust the normal grocery stuff that says Gluten free on them if it is processed. I ate Creme of Rice and got sick from that. So now I am hmm.. suspicious of it.

Any input on this?

Does anyone know of any Corn Tortillas that are made in a dedicated factory? Same with Corn Flakes. I have had problems with them too.

You might want to check out Food for Life sprouted corn tortillas.

I have problems with a few brands of corn tortillas (even the ones that say gluten free) and for me it seems to be the guar gum that many contain. I have noticed a similar stomach reaction to other foods and the common factor is guar gum. I stick to the brands that my store carries that are just corn, water and lime. I don't eat the ones that have more ingredients than that. I like La Tapatia brand.

I guess what I was trying to ask is if anyone has problems with processed foods (in general) that aren't made in a Gluten free factory? :P;)

I am gonna try some other corn Tortillas probably, but mostly I am gonna see if I can find stuff among the dedicated gluten free brands. For now the "grocery store stuff" will have to wait. (Is the Food for Life a "dedicated" brand? I'll check it out online.)

Interesting about the guar gum there. The ones that I ate has just the few ingredients (corn, oil, salt, lime), but it is made by a company that makes other stuff with wheat in them. (Mission)

I dunno.. Sometimes getting sick is just a mystery..

Thanks for your replies. :)

I have problems with processed foods in general, regardless of whether or not the product was made in a gluten-free facility. When I do eat a processed food, it has to be something that contains very few (preferably organic) ingredients. I really like the Food for Life tortillas though. The fact that the corn is sprouted makes it much easier to digest. :) Some corn products bother me, and some don't. It is a mystery...

Sorry that's not a direct answer to your question, but I think you'll find a lot of people here who feel they get glutened by products made in a non dedicated facility.

I guess I'll have to give those Tortillas a chance then. ;)

We have a problem with soft corn tortillas in that we all think they taste terrible <_< . We stick with the hard taco shells. Too bad because I've been craving chicken fajitas, haven't had them since Ty was diagnosed a year and two months ago. They just don't taste the same in a hard taco.

I have had problems with corn tortillas too. I tried a few different brands that said gluten free and felt sick after all of them...but my corn test came back negative so I have no idea what the problem is.

Does anyone get sinus/eye problems from eating corn? I have been eating air popped popcorn lately and I wake up feeling like I have been crying all night. My eyes itch and burn and water all day.

I really, really hope I am not having a problem with corn. I feel like I have eaten it before and been okay..but you never know with this stupid stomach. The way I feel now  it will be a while before I eat corn again I think. Or processed food that wasn't made in a dedicated place.

Yes, I have "glutened" reactions from every corn tortilla I've tried. I've posted about my experiences 2-3 times already on these forums so I won't go back into it here.

I am very wary of processed foods. One that really works for me is Hormel. They have a huge list of gluten free products and so far I have been fortunate to be able to eat them without any problem.

I strongly agree with others about processed gluten free foods, like breads and pasta, being bad for us. Read the labels, full of this starch and that starch, seed oils that are inflammatory, etc. Before you were celiac, you probably wouldn't even touch something with those ingredients. I do much better with whole foods, meat, veggies, a little fruit. I made 90% myself, make extra and freeze it for future meals. Cutting out processed gluten free food and eating mostly real whoke food helped me feel much better. And definitely benfotiamine!

Please be sure to try Benfotiamine or Thiamine Hydrochloride.  The form Thiamine Mononitrate is not absorbed nor utilized well.  Benfotiamine is much more bioavailable.  Perhaps Thiamine Mononitrate was in your previous B Complex supplements, explaining why they didn't work for you.   All the B vitamins work together.  Thiamine needs the other B vitamins to make enzymes and ATP, so you will need to take them.  Taking them in individual supplements is fine.  I've done the same.  Just remember you need all eight.   Let me know how it's going for you!

Thanks! This makes a lot of sense.

Thanks! I am currently trying B1 out on its own. I tried many brands of B-complex and they always make me feel nauseous and tired. I think I may have to try taking each B vitamin on its own.
