I was recently at Del Taco and the employees didnt seem to know what i was talking about when explaining my gluten-free diet. Does anyone know of any thing gluten-free at Del Taco?

If the employees have no clue, then I'd just forget about it. The odds of them cross contaminating something sounds like it would be high. Though if you really want to eat there, try calling the company? Someone there should know. =)

Here is their website Open Original Shared Link, you might want to try to contact them directly.

I know where I live we have "Taco Bell" and there is not much there that Celiac's can eat.

I called Del Taco (number at www.deltaco.com).

They said the following are gluten-free:

Plain hamburger patty

Cheddar cheese

Spicy Jack Cheese

Rice

Red Sauce

Green Sauce

Taco Shells

Tortilla Shells

Lettuce Tomato Onion

Vanilla Shake.

The ground beef seasoning HAS GLUTEN.

And they warn that the environment does process gluten foods, so nothing is guaranteed. :(

Aren't we all better off not eating that fast food crap anyway?! ;) Count not being able to sustain your life from the menu at Del Taco as a blessing in disguise! Make your own tacos at home. We pour Old El Paso Mild flavored taco sauce on our ground beef. It's waaay better than anything gluten full on Del's menu. Look for the silver lining in some of these things! :D

I called Taco Bell (not the same as Del Taco...) but I know that Celiacs can have pintos and cheese and bean tostadas. Other taco shells are contaminated by gluten.

I am a new gluten free guy, and am still learning. I did Taco Tuesday last night and had 6 hard shell taco's for 2 bucks. This morning I am bloated and... I say skip most of those menu items.

If you have a Chipolte near you, they seem good. On the website they will tell you that they only fry chips & taco shell in the oil. You can see them making your food & ask them to put on clean gloves as they may have been handling a flour tortilla.

I work at del taco, your really playing with fire there. The patties you can have but they toast the buns in the same spot. I just eat at chipotle and use the del taco red sauce.

It's on this site.  Click in my name.  Look for the pull down menu that says "Activities" and chose "blog".  Oh, there's the link!     You can send personal messages through this site, too, if you like.

It's part of the malabsorption that occurs with Celiac Disease.  Yes, I lost weight, too.  We can use up our B vitamins quickly when we're ill.  The B vitamins are water soluble and easily lost.  Supplementing can help ensure we're getting the essential vitamins and minerals our body needs to function well.  Many vitamins can be low in the newly diagnosed.  Vitamin D can also be low.  Minerals like iron and magnesium can be low, too.  You'll feel better once you restore the nutrients.

Thank-you I will ask the doctor about this.  This is all new to me I'm feeling ill every day and losing weight is this part of coeliac?

Thank you so much for your response kitty that is helpful to hold in mind. I am also doing a review on lived experiences of coeliac disease so your blog would be incredibly valuable for me to review, please can I have the link to it?

i'd just like to preface this by saying i have an extremely supportive and talented boyfriend who is amazing at cooking, and he's willing to go gluten free with me. i am much more privileged than a lot of coeliacs for this reason. it's just so depressing though. i turned 18 in april and was basically diagnosed via a blood test in february. i had an endoscopy two days ago, got put to sleep, and woke up to the doctor immediately telling me i absolutely have it. what lovely news. i tried to prepare mentally before the endoscopy after my gp said he was 95% sure i had it, but it's just so hard finally going on this diet and saying goodbye to so many of my favourite foods. so hard watching others...
