Ulcers,eczma & Cradle Cap?

How common is it to suffer from mouth ulcers and eczma with celiac?

It is only slight eczma (not dh) on his ankles but is very itchy.

Plus he has what I think is 'cradle cap' and has had for a LONG time.

Any advice is gratefully recieved.

I know that I frustrate some of the site members by my need to have my 10yr old son 'diagnosed' with celiac before putting him on the gluten free diet. I understand this.

Without a diagnosis he is unable to join the Coeliac (as it is spelt here) Society

Or recieve follow-up Dietician appointments (free through health care)

Or recieve ongoing support through the hospital

Or recieve discounts on gluten-free items

Plus his school say they need medical clarification in order to cater to his celiac.

He is awaiting an appointment for a bowel biopsy. A 'diagnosis' will make managing his diet a lot easier.

However, if after testing I am unable to get a 'diagnosis', I will be putting him on a gluten-free diet to see if it helps him anyway without the above help.

Peta,

I have not been diagnosed as of yet, my blood work is in the system as we speak lol!! I had exzema very badly as a child and my children all have exzema with the exception of my daughter whom has a dermatitis herpitifomas type of rash quite frequently!! I also have mouth ulcers like you would not believe. I used to have canker sores growing up pretty badly, but after I had my kids I started getting what I call mouth craters (because the ulcers are so darn big) they prevent me from eating and they end up being these huge holes and they can run in a line all along the middle inside of my cheak or they can take up a huge portion of the inside of one side of my lower lip. They are enormous. My daughter got diagnosed with hand, foot and mouth a few times because she had craters in her mouth but she never had any hand or foot symptoms and no one else around us got them, so I'm convinced they were from the Celiac. Ug I have all the symptoms and I'm sure I'll test negative and I just can't deal with that stress right now. I just want answers at this point!!

You might try Heallix.  It's a silver solution with fulvic acid. I just put the solution on with a cotton ball.  It seemed to stop the nerve pain. Again,  not in your eyes or ears.   Go to heallix.com to read more about it and decide for yourself Also,  I do think nerve and celiac combined have a lot to do with your susceptibility to shingles breaking out.

Celiac disease requires both genetic potential and a triggering stress event to activate the genes. Otherwise it remains dormant and only a potential problem. So having the genetic potential is not deterministic for celiac disease. Many more people have the genes than actually develop the disease. But if you don't have the genes, the symptoms are likely being caused by something else.

Yes, i pulled raw ancetry data and saw i have 2/3 markers for DQ2.2 but have heard from friends in genetics that this raw data can be wildly innacurate

Thanks, I’m still dealing with the pain and tingling and itching and feeling like bugs or something crawling around on my face and scalp. It’s been a miserable experience. I saw my eye doc last week, the eye itself was okay, so they didn’t do anything. I did take a 7 day course of an antiviral. I’m hoping for a turnaround soon! My life is full of stress but I have been on / off the gluten free diet for the last year , after being talked into going back on gluten to have a biopsy, that looked okay. But I do have positive antibody levels that have been responsive  to a gluten free diet. I can’t help but wonder if the last year has caused all this.

I don't think any apps are up to date, which is exactly why this happened to you. Most of the data in such apps is years old, and it doesn't get updated in real time. Ultimately there is no substitution for learning to read labels. The following two lists are very helpful for anyone who is gluten sensitive and needs to avoid gluten when shopping. It's very important to learn to read labels and understand sources of hidden gluten, and to know some general information about product labelling--for example in the USA if wheat is a possible allergen it must be declared on a product's ingredient label like this: Allergens: Wheat.
