Does Type/amount Of Genes Make A Difference?

I have been trying to look up a question on the internet but cannot get an answer.

The people on this site seem to have more knowledge of celiac than anywhere else you hopefully you can help.

Does it make a difference to the likelihood of having celiac if you have certain combinations of the DQ2 and DQ8 genes?

If my son has both DQ8 genes and both DQ2 genes does that make him any more likely to have celiac than say someone with only one, or a combination of 2 genes??

Just curious.

Thanks,

Peta

Read this. :) You'll probably find it elucidating. :)

The HLA-DQ2 Gene Dose Effect in Celiac Disease is Directly Related to the Magnitude and Breadth of Gluten-Specific T-Cell Reponses

Open Original Shared Link

In-depth discussion on difference between DQ2.5 and DQ2.2 homo- and heterozygous individuals and binding affinity to various gliandin peptides. Implications include the method of presentation of gluten to susceptible individuals.

GlutenWrangler Contributor

Combinations of DQ2 and DQ8, or DQ2 and DQ2, or DQ8 and DQ8, are all high susceptibility factors for celiac disease. Your son would have a higher chance of getting celiac disease, and the potential for a more severe dietary reaction to gluten. I'm not sure if this answers your question, but I hope it helps.

Thankyou for your responses.

I have SOOOO many questions that I wish I could connect my computer directly into your brains and extract all that wonderful information....as I'm hesitant to drive you all mad on this site by asking my hundreds of mindless questions!

Ask all the questions you want.

When a question gets asked someone pulls up another article I haven't read yet. So you help so many people in the long run.

Some interesting articles regarding the use of Zinc Carnosine to help heal gastric ulcers, gastritis and intestinal permeability. I would consult a medical professional about it's use. https://www.nature.com/articles/ncpgasthep0778 https://www.rupahealth.com/post/clinical-applications-of-zinc-carnosine---evidence-review https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7146259/ https://www.fallbrookmedicalcenter.com/zinc-l-carnosine-benefits-dosage-and-safety/

He is. Which makes everything even more difficult. I’m not a believer in “staying for the kids” but I have nowhere to go and it’s not just me, it’s me plus my babies. We live in a beautiful place, lots of land in the country and me and the kids love the place we’ve called home for their entire lives. But Im seeing that he’ll never change, that my kids deserve a happy healthy Momma, and that staying in this as is will be the early death of me. Then I look at the scars covering my entire body…this disease and the chronic stress I’ve been enduring for years that tell me I’m no longer beautiful and no one will ever look at me with interest again. I try self care, try to give myself grace so I can just start loving myself enough to gain strength but the slightest sparkle in my eye and skip in my step attracts his wrath and it all comes crashing ten fold. Life is just absolutely railing me from every single direction leaving me wanting to wave that white flag bc I don’t feel like there’s much hope no matter what happens.
