Positive Dietary Response In Toddler!

I am thrilled that we are finally getting some answers :)

My youngest son was diagnosed with diabetes in July. On Thanksgiving weekend he was ill with a stomach bug that took him a long time to get over. Since then he's had constant issues- loose stool, really foul smelling, distended boated belly, poor growth, etc. That immediately sent up red flags because the symptoms were remarkably similar to his older brother ( also a diabetic with celiac disease).

We had the celiac panel run 2x but both times everything had come back negative. We did some other testing to rule out other issues but nothing came of it. So we decided to try the diet and see what happened. Well, after 3 days on the diet he had his first normal bowel movement in months, the bloat was gone, and his blood sugars improved drastically.

I couldn't be happier, not that he has celiac of course, but that the diet is making him feel so much better. Thanks for letting me share :)

Amy, I am glad you figured it out, and that the little guy feels so much better. It must be hard to have two diabetic children! The celiac disease isn't as big a deal, since it's just about changing the diet.

I am glad you figured it out. It is SUCH a relief to have them be healthy again. It was like the weight of the world lifted off my shoulders.

Glad to hear that your little one is responding well to the diet!

After seeing such positive results....doesn't it make you wonder just how "accurate" these tests are? It may just be me, but I believe that anyone undergoing tests for Celiac should follow up testing with a 2 week dietary trial just to be sure gluten isn't an issue. It seems a lot simpler than years worth of negative results and a whole lot of worrying and stressing in the families affected.

Congrats on getting things on a more even keel!

It looks like their most recent clinical trial just finished up on 5-22-2025.

Dear Scott,  please check the link https://clinicaltrials.gov/study/NCT05574010?intr=KAN-101&rank=1 What do you think about it?

KAN‑101 is still very much in development and being actively studied. It has not been dropped—rather, it is advancing through Phases 1 and 2, moving toward what could become the first disease‑modifying treatment for celiac disease. https://anokion.com/press_releases/anokion-announces-positive-symptom-data-from-its-phase-2-trial-evaluating-kan-101-for-the-treatment-of-celiac-disease/

Thiamine interacts with all the other B vitamins.  Thiamine and B 6 make a very important enzyme together. With more thiamine and other vitamins available from the supplements your body is absorbing the ones you need more of.  The body can control which vitamins to absorb or not.  You're absorbing more and it's being transported through the blood.   It's common to have both a Thiamine and a Pyridoxine deficiency.  Keep taking the B Complex. This is why it's best to stop taking supplements for six to eight weeks before testing vitamin levels.

Yes I took a supplement that had B6 in it, low dosage though. I've stopped taking that. B1 doesn't affect other B vitamin levels?
