South Beach Bars

I was so thrilled to find Kraft South Beach diet bars -- they are available in mainstream stores (a huge plus), high in protein, and fairly tasty. I've eaten the snack-size cinnamon and chocolate with no problems (although I thought the chocolate might have upset my tummy a little). Last week I came across the meal replacement size and got some for breakfast. No problems with cinnamon, but today I am doubled over with painful cramps and gas after a chocolate one. It was the only processed food I ate all day.

As far as I can tell, the cinnamon and chocolate are safe in both sizes, according to ingredients. They do have a "shared equipment" disclaimer that lists wheat. I don't think of myself as super-sensitive, and I was careful the first time I tried them.

It could be something else entirely (although it feels like gluten), which is why I came here to see what others' experiences have been.

Has anyone else been eating these?

Thanks in advance -- I really hope this passes quickly. I have a half-marathon to run on Sunday! :(

I have eaten them in the past with no problems. However, I have not eaten them recently. Hope you feel better soon.

I just registered to find out about SB replacement bars. I too get very bloated after eating them but I do not experience the "gluten" pain. I think it is safe but the sugar alcohol is what make us crampy and gassy...I think...

Dear WGibs,

If I had to choose, I would say cross-contamination is an issue. I won't even touch food that has not been made on dedicated lines in a gluten-free facility. I cannot chance it. My reaction is too violent. I am definitely not willing to try anything I am not sure of.

Sincerely,

NoGluGirl

Thanks rmj when I first rang up it was we can't do it without , but I talked to a lovely lady and she sorted it all out for me, so it pays to be persistent , I would have had to decline if I hadn't been given the water option too , so yes I'm glad too 😌

I’m so glad they listened to your concerns!  I hope you get some answers from the MRI.

Had my MRI today I didn't have to have the manitol with my allergy's , I just had a litre of water , they were great with my concerns , so let's see if anything comes of if will keep posted once I have results 👍

Thank you ,it’s been a long road for me for having both now ,what upsets the most is that if they discovered that I also have cealiac earlier I would not have injested gluten if I was aware. Double whammy.
