Glutened? Does It Happen This Fast After Eating?

I just ate a meal from a vegetarian restaurant that I thought was gluten free, but now I have a stomach ache and awful indigestion immediately afterward---I feel awful. Is it possible to be glutened so immediately? Argh.

It is possible. I can tell before I leave the restaurant usually.

I can't believe I made such a stupid mistake. I thought the meal was safe and while I was eating it it occured to me that it could have flour in the sauce. I don't know why I didn't ask, and now I'm paying for it. Ugh

This was actually very immediate. Before I was even finished with the meal, actually.

But I am kind of new at this........even though it's been a few years, I think my many mistakes and lack of diligence have caused me to become more sensitive to it, if that makes sense.

If I eat something with direct wheat in it as in a sauce, I will know almost right away, the grumbling tummy starts, a CC issue, usually within 20 minutes. If its a minor glutening, I just have to get it out of my system, usually with a nice long visit to the bathroom, once its out I am ok. If I have a major glutening, the first happens, the visit, then the pain stays and many many runs to the bathroom, and usually cant eat the next day, as all that comes out too.

I hope you feel better. We all make mistakes..

The last time I was glutened I knew it within a few minutes. I had really bad acid stomach. I hope you feel better soon!

I also can tell immedietly.... I just recently was sick from baking and preping wheat pasrties this last weekend. It can be a very sensitive allergy.

I just got glutened by some sour cream. I felt it within 20 minutes after eating it. :(

I too get major indigestion usually, belching and sour stomach.

I find it hard to eat out without getting sick.

What Thiamine Hydrochloride brand do you take? Is it like the other vitamins I have added? What brand Tryptophan and amount do you take. Thanks

I would not think store bought yogurt would contain gluten unless it possibly could be through an added flavoring or coloring ingredient. Otherwise, it should be naturally gluten free.  Keep in mind that some companies are capitalizing on people's fears and ignorance (nothing personal intended) by labeling foods "gluten free" that are just that way by the nature of what they are. They are hoping to create a marketing edge over their competitors by adding "gluten free" because they know it may catch attention of those new to the celiac/gluten sensitivity experience without having to cost them anything in the way of changing their manufacturing process or doing testing.

I believe the GFCO does use a common logo for certified gluten free products (those containing not more that 10ppm of gluten) but nothing universal yet from the FDA for standard gluten free products (those containing not more that 20ppm).

I have a One Pot and decided to start using it one day. I was hesitant at first making my own yogurt, but was surprised at how easy it was. I like mine better too.

Because I spend so much time reading every word on all food packaging, I personally would greatly appreciate it if there was one common gluten-free symbol written in large-enough text, and always located in the same place. That alone will make shopping easier and faster. I dread having to buy packaged food. Thank you very much for asking,
