I'm so glad you asked that. When I first started here, I too wondered and was reluctant to ask because I felt I should already know or be able to figure it out and would sound really dumb. Well, now I feel dumb and dumber.

I had deduced that it was daughter, son, and husband ( I have been on here almost three months). But I always thought it meant they had Celiac, or maybe dermatitis herpetiformis, a slang abreviation with medical connotations or something. Of course, many times (probably most of the time even) the posters are referring to their Celiac kid or husband, but not necessarily.

That's why many times I start out a post with "I'm not the expert" (but here's what I think)!

I believe that using such abbreviations are silly--just write it out! Such things only make it impossible for others to search for information that could help them.

AFAIK these are common internet abbreviations that have been in use for over a decade...just like the smilies. I don't see their usage stopping. For a list of common abbreviations, check here:

Thanks for saying that! It's been driving me nuts that past couple of months trying to figure out what ds, dd and dh meant! I can figure out what the big D meant based on the context of the conversations, but those other one's had me scratching my head!
