I listened to the story, then read it. I'm not sure what I think of it. Though they quickly mention Celiac, they completely write off the idea of gluten intolerance, and seem to be focusing on paranoia over food ingredients. I have a hard time believing there are that many people out there that would be eating gluten free if they didn't have to be.

I had the same impression when I heard the story with the inolerance portion. Although, they did say that if you feel better you should definitly stay with the diet but it sounded like a choice and not the actual health issue it is.

And at least celiac disease was mentioned.

I believe. My sister-in-law is on a new diet about every six months. Last summer it was the blood type diet that told her to eliminate wheat. She had no symptoms and no lab tests. She just saw it as a way to lose weight.

I took a look at that eat for your blood type book from a coworker who thought that she was helping me. Any way I am A pos and it tells me to eat Wheat and other grains like Barley, fruits and veggies Tomatoes were highly recommended for my blood type. Well for one don't like tomatoes and I simply can not eat the things they make me sicker than eating something with gluten. I ate a dish at my mom's that had tomatoes in fresh ones (I should have know she loves the stuff) she thinks that is all in my head for not liking tomatoes for one. I was soo sick from the tomatoes all week 4years ago that I vomited all day and D for 3 days and felt like I was 10 months pregnat I was bloated so bad along with the gas traveling my body and trapped in my body. it was horrible now if anything has tomatoes I can take them out with out any problem especially if they don't have the tomatoe seeds in it. If it does don't stand behind me not pretty.

      Hey @Butch68, I also have dermatitis herpetiformis but don't suffer from it anymore. I used to drink Guinness too but I drink Cider now when out on social occasions. I assume you are in Ireland or the UK. If it's any good to you ... 9 White Deer based in Cork brew a range of gluten-free products including a gluten-free Stout. I'm not sure if they are certified though. https://www.9whitedeer.ie/ I haven't come across any certified gluten-free stouts this side of the pond.

      This is a very common question, and the most important thing to know is that no, Guinness is not considered safe for individuals with coeliac disease. While it's fascinating to hear anecdotes from other coeliacs who can drink it without immediate issues, this is a risky exception rather than the rule. The core issue is that Guinness is brewed from barley, which contains gluten, and the standard brewing process does not remove the gluten protein to a level safe for coeliacs (below 20ppm). For someone like you who experiences dermatitis herpetiformis, the reaction is particularly significant. DH is triggered by gluten ingestion, even without immediate gastrointestinal symptoms. So, while you may not feel an instant stomach upset, drinking a gluten-containing beer like Guinness could very well provoke a flare-up of your skin condition days later. It would be a gamble with a potentially uncomfortable and long-lasting consequence. Fortunately, there are excellent, certified gluten-free stouts available now that can provide a safe and satisfying alternative without the risk.

      Before being diagnosed coeliac I used to love Guinness. Being made from barley it should be something a coeliac shouldn’t drink. But taking to another coeliac and they can drink it with no ill effects and have heard of others who can drink it too.  is this everyone’s experience?  Can I drink it?  I get dermatitis herpetiformis and don’t get instant reactions to gluten so can’t try it to see for myself.

      NCGS does not cause damage to the small bowel villi so, if indeed you were not skimping on gluten when you had the antibody blood testing done, it is likely you have celiac disease.
