maybe i am just grasping at straws here, but i am feeling so desparate and helpless as i watch my boys (and myself) struggle with physical and mental problems for no apparent reason.

Chrissy,

I dont think you're grasping at straws with this. I've read that *anyone* having unexplained or bizarre symptoms should be tested for Lyme. As Bev posted....Lyme is known as the "great imitator"....it can mimick nearly all diseases.

I would definately pursue testing....not just for you but all symptomatic family members. Hopefully the next Dr. will be willing to *listen* unlike the neurologist you saw.

It would be good for you to get this ruled in or out.

Best wishes. :)

The two Western Blots (IgG and IgM) were $190.

On top of that I had to pay for the doctor visit...most lyme doctors don't take insurance...but my insurance company did reimburse 70% of that as well.

I still find this soooo odd...my insurance reimbursed me for the entire $190! I hope they don't come looking for that later. :P

I'd like to clarify: Is the pain you describe in the area just below your chest constant, or does it only appear when you start moving?

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
