Scary Low Blood Sugar Episode Last Night

I woke up at 3:00 a.m. completely sweaty, shaky/chillled, heart pounding, nausaous, and when I sat up I was dizzy, the room was spinning. I've had little bouts of low blood sugar before, but nothing like this. I immediately got up and went to the kitchen, quickly poured myself a glass of milk, and went into the bathroom because I thought I was going to vomit. But after sitting on the floor and drinking the milk, the nausea went away and the room stopped spinning. Then I went back into the kitchen and ate a bunch of grapes, everything calmed down, and then I went back to bed. Today, my stomach has been killing me. No nausea, just a constant sharp pain. I wondered if it was simply carb withdrawal, as going gluten free naturally is less starchy. So I made myself some white rice with lunch. I felt a little better, but it still hurts this evening.

Other than my stomach, I feel great. Not too sleepy, despite waking up in the middle of the night and eating a lot of white starch for lunch. Sinuses super clear, no headache, no muscle aches. I've been gluten free for 3 days straight. Before that I was gluten free for 4 days straight. I accidentally ate gluten at a weekend party, but it wasn't a whole lot.

Is this normal? Or is there something else I should get checked out? I already had an abdominal Ultrsound and liver function and other blood tests done. All normal.

The two times I've cut out carbs I felt exactly this same way the following morning. My husband had to bring me food before I could even get out of bed. The whole next day I felt weak and my stomach hurt a bit.

I'd say it's cutting out the carbs and not just the gluten. HTH!

Thank you so much for your reply! You've really put my mind at ease. I think you are right. I drank so gator-ade and that has made me feel better too. I'll make sure to eat plenty of rice and white potatos to make up for all the pasta and white bread I'm not eating anymore.

Don't know about normal but there is new info suggesting 1/2 tsp of cinnamon a day in the morning will normalize blood sugar. My husband has been taking with applesauce and has had no more low blood sugar problems since about a week after starting this. I have read it in two magazines and seen it being talked about on TV by a Dr.

I also had the exact same reaction when I tried to go low carb one time. Very frightening! I will never go low carb again! Now I try to make sure I get sort of a balance in each meal - some protein, some carbs, fats.

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
