We have a distant cousin from Germany coming to stay with us for a month. I'd like to be able to email her to explain Celiac and Gluten-free to her before she comes. She does speak some English but I really want to make sure she understands so I was hoping someone might have some suggestions or might know the right German words to use.

Hi,

First of all, your babies are just beautiful. Aren't kids a joy? My one and only baby is 18 and leaving for college in a month. Poor mom is very sad to see him go. :(

As for the German, I don't speak it, but I checked around the forum and found something that might be of help. Go to the heading that says, "Gluten-Free International Room (Outside USA)." Once you're there, go to page 5, post 5, and there are posts from some people who speak German.

Good luck.

I took two years of german in High school, and still speak with my german teacher via letters using some german. I could help a bit.

UrsaMajor is German, but currently on holiday in Germany. I am sure that she will assist you in any way and even write the letter for you or find some source information that can be passed on.

She checks in from time to time. PM her and see if she can help.

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
