You don't have to eliminate these items permanently. The idea is to eliminate them and use a very careful diet until you stop bleeding. Then she has other levels that are less restrictive for lesser symptoms like bloating and gas.

That is such good news. If you can get there on a moments notice ask if you can be on their cancellation list, sometimes you can get in quicker. I have wondered how you were doing, I hope they can help you get some answers.

I have an appointment to see a specialist next week to help me out with my diet. I felt terrific for a long time but recently started get C again. Anyways, maybe you should consider a rotation diet (without gluten, of course) and see if you feel better. Check out what I've read on his site. Open Original Shared Link

Mind you I haven't seen him yet and do know if he'll recommend it to me, but it makes sense. I also read about the rotation diet in the book Dangerous Grains.

I hope you feel better soon!

I can eat rice but I don't eat it very often. i'm not a health freak by choice really lol just cause it's easy (and might i briefly step on my soap box: you damn americans who eat fast food cause it's "easy and you don't have time" GROW UP and stop complaining your fat! it takes the same time to make a salad that it does to get in your car and drive to mcdonalds! it's all about taking responsibility...thank you for listening).

I have to confess I'm a MAJOR candy girl! (might I back that up with I'm a dancer and am very active, I eat them cause I can! Clearly I'm one of those "if the pants fit great, if they get tight, cut out something!" I'm 5 foot 2 and 110 pounds) I have cut down cause I just haven't felt like eating it since I'm bloating LOTS....but I have a huge mikasa bowl on my coffee table and the rule is "it always has to be full". All my friends are GREAT and funny cause they say "Mel can only eat candy, so instead of going out to dinner we go to her coffee table and can eat together!" and they bring candy every time they come over! Right now it's full of tootsie rolls, normally it's full of snickers and full size hershey bars.

I love coffee cause of the taste.

Do you mind posting a snickers like recipe?! i LOVE to bake! The whole foods bread is the only one that doesn't feel like brick to me! I CAN'T GET ENOUGH! not to mention they are great in the toaster oven! I'm cutting down on the coke cause I don't want to gain weight and it is easy to replace that with tea.

I'm with you on the grains, I don't think we are supposed to have them...

Guys I'm SO EXCITED to call Dr. Green!!! I'm hoping I can get in fast (and he takes my insurance...minor detail! lol) and praying that I don't have to cut out dairy. I FEAR that is the issue...well part of the issue...I'm starting a food/poo journal today and hopefully it will tell me something.

Again I can't thank you all enough for everything!!!

I am wondering if you might have ulcerative colitis causing the bleeding...several months ago I had a colon infection that caused me to have the colitis..at that time the bleeding was severe but now only have it ocasionally..but have not been able to pinpoint the cause. I am celiac for one and one half years and have that pretty well under control but just do not

know what causes the occasional light bleeding. Hope you find good answers soon..evie

I have read so much about this Dr. Green and what a good diagnostician he is..so good luck to you!!

Steveofmt Newbie

If you are in the NYC area, you should get an appointment with Dr. Peter Green at Columbia Medical Center. I'm told he is one of the country's foremost experts on Celiac disease.

So as most of yall know I just had another scope because (mind you this has been going on and off since CHRISTMAS and I have been to 2 doctors and looking for my 3rd doctor) I have had bleeding and I am pooing poos 1/2 my weight about 5 times a day. To me, that means SOMETHING IS WRONG. Well this last a-hole scoped me a week ago scoped me because he thought it was a hemeriod and cotterized it. Fine. dandy.

Then after I woke up he brought me into his office and told me in short that I was a hypochondriac and there is no way i have any kind of gluten allergy.

This pissed me off to no end....but here is the kicker.

I'M STILL BLEEDING!!!! WTF?!??!? anyone got ideas? I'm terrified it's Chrones.

So I'm once again looking for a NEW doctor that LISTENS, is smart, and educated in celiac disease...oh and one that my insurance takes. People PLEASE list any and all doctors that you know of in NYC or Astoria area that take insurance. I know some of yall have told me about them but they are to far from me and don't take my insurance. Thanks so so so much.

Thank you so much @knitty kitty for this insightful information! I would have never considered fractionated coconut oil to be a potential source of GI upset. I will consider all the info you shared. Very interesting about the Thiamine deficiency.  I've tracked daily averages of my intake in a nutrition software. The only nutrient I can't consistently meet from my diet is vitamin D. Calcium is a hit and miss as I rely on vegetables, dark leafy greens as a major source, for my calcium intake. I'm able to meet it when I either eat or juice a bundle of kale or collard greens daily haha. My thiamine intake is roughly 120% of my needs, although I do recognize that I may not be absorbing all of these nutrients consistently with intermittent unintentional exposures to gluten.  My vitamin A intake is roughly 900% (~6400 mcg/d) of my needs as I eat a lot of sweet potato, although since it's plant-derived vitamin A (beta-carotene) apparently it's not likely to cause toxicity.  Thanks again!

How do I contact someone at celiac.com concerning the cessation of my weekly e-newsletter? I had been receiving it regularly for years. When I tried to sign-up on the website, my email was not accepted. I tried again with a new email address and that was rejected as well. Thank you in advance!

Hello, @Jane02,  I take Naturewise D 3.  It contains olive oil.   Some Vitamin D supplements, like D Drops, are made with fractionated coconut oil which can cause digestive upsets.  Fractionated coconut oil is not the same as coconut oil used for cooking.  Fractionated coconut oil has been treated for longer shelf life, so it won't go bad in the jar, and thus may be irritating to the digestive system. I avoid supplements made with soy because many people with Celiac Disease also react to soy.  Mixed tocopherols, an ingredient in Thornes Vitamin D, may be sourced from soy oil.  Kirkland's has soy on its ingredient list. I avoid things that might contain or be exposed to crustaceans, like Metagenics says on its label.  I have a crustacean/shellfish/fish allergy.  I like Life Extension Bioactive Complete B Complex.  I take additional Thiamine B 1 in the form Benfotiamine which helps the intestines heal, Life Extension MegaBenfotiamine. Thiamine is needed to activate Vitamin D.   Low thiamine can make one feel like they are getting glutened after a meal containing lots of simple carbohydrates like white rice, or processed gluten free foods like cookies and pasta.   It's rare to have a single vitamin deficiency.  The water soluble B Complex vitamins should be supplemented together with additional Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine and Thiamine TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) to correct subclinical deficiencies that don't show up on blood tests.  These are subclinical deficiencies within organs and tissues.  Blood is a transportation system.  The body will deplete tissues and organs in order to keep a supply of thiamine in the bloodstream going to the brain and heart.   If you're low in Vitamin D, you may well be low in other fat soluble vitamins like Vitamin A and Vitamin K. Have you seen a dietician?

I do not know this, but since they are labelled gluten-free, and are not really a product that could easily be contaminated when making them (there would be not flour in the air of such a facility, for example), I don't really see contamination as something to be concerned about for this type of product.
