About Checking Medications...

When first diagnosed I knew I needed to check my medications so I called the pharmacist and she looked at all of them and even had to check on one ingredient that was in all of them but she didn't know what it was. But she checked it and told me they were all fine. In a matter of 3 days in the past week (3 months later) I find out that at least 2 of them are gluten containers....One is even found on glutenfreedrugs.com (Search Xanax on the 'Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications')

I CAN NOT RECOMMEND ENOUGH THE NEED TO CALL THE MANUFACTURER, NOT THE PHARMACY!

I have not called the generic alprazolam companies since it is the weekend, but I will in the morning, because even though the name brand of my oral contraceptive was not gluten free, one of the generics was gluten free :) So I didn't even have to switch medicine, just brand.

Please pass on this advice, I have been injesting gluten just because I trusted my pharmacist for 3 months!!

I am so sorry this happened to you. I hate to sound like a jerk but you really should report that pharmacist to the state, if he/she has been lax with you she for sure has with others also. If it had been me that she did that to I would be in the ER hemmoraging so it is not just a minor point. I realize pharms are in a hard position because we have no regs as to gluten ingredients in drugs, OTC or script. They do not have to label it clearly and with generics they may be safe today but not next week cause they can change 'inactive' ingredients at will. This has to change and pharmacists should be leading us. Many of them unfortunately get as frustrated as we do, if not more. I have had one throw a tantrum, crumple up the package insert and throw it across the room. I made her go over and pick it up and then I went home and called the company myself, the drug wasn't safe but she had my script waiting for me to poison myself when I asked if she checked.

I agree with this as well. This could cause a lot of harm to innocent people.

Thanks rmj when I first rang up it was we can't do it without , but I talked to a lovely lady and she sorted it all out for me, so it pays to be persistent , I would have had to decline if I hadn't been given the water option too , so yes I'm glad too 😌

I’m so glad they listened to your concerns!  I hope you get some answers from the MRI.

Had my MRI today I didn't have to have the manitol with my allergy's , I just had a litre of water , they were great with my concerns , so let's see if anything comes of if will keep posted once I have results 👍

Thank you ,it’s been a long road for me for having both now ,what upsets the most is that if they discovered that I also have cealiac earlier I would not have injested gluten if I was aware. Double whammy.
