Do Any Otc Pyridium Meds Have Gluten?

I have intersticial cystitis and about one a week I take a over the counter pyridium med. You know the stuff to help UTI's feel better. They come in with the same active ingredient as the prescription med, but have different names as inactive ingredients. I have had no probs with several different brands. Recently I used Brooks Pharmacy brand with no problems. The second package I took a dose from caused a hive break out all over my hands, wrists and face. I did not think it was from this though. I then took 3 more doses with no probs. The next dose caused a similiar but milder reaction. Again, I did not think it was from the meds. This past weekend I took a dose and 15 minutes later broke out with hives on my feet and hands and my mouth felt tingly. I had to take benydryl to make it go away. Obviously it is an allergic reaction. Do you think there could be gluten in the product? I never had this reaction before to gluten. Also, why would I have a reaction, then no reaction and then a reaction again with the same brand and box??? I need this med for my flare ups!! Any info would be helpful. Thanks. Are there any brands that you know definitely are gluten free?? AZO??

This sounds like a clear allergic reaction and seeing as it is getting worse when it comes back it would be very unwise of you to take this med again. Have you been to the doctor? If not you should head there and tell him also of the reaction.

Why would I react and then not react for 3 doses and then react again?

Thanks rmj when I first rang up it was we can't do it without , but I talked to a lovely lady and she sorted it all out for me, so it pays to be persistent , I would have had to decline if I hadn't been given the water option too , so yes I'm glad too 😌

I’m so glad they listened to your concerns!  I hope you get some answers from the MRI.

Had my MRI today I didn't have to have the manitol with my allergy's , I just had a litre of water , they were great with my concerns , so let's see if anything comes of if will keep posted once I have results 👍

Thank you ,it’s been a long road for me for having both now ,what upsets the most is that if they discovered that I also have cealiac earlier I would not have injested gluten if I was aware. Double whammy.
