Just Wondering

I've had a few mess ups in the past month. 4 times to be exact. First let me say I'm so mad at myself for not being more careful. It's only been 3 months and I guess I gove over confident with the diet.

Every time I get a sensation that starts on my tongue and goes into my throat, kind of tingly. In fact, twice I figured out I was eating gluten food because of this symptom. I looked at the ingredients closer and sure enough something bad was in it. Each time I ended up with a stomach ache, grumbly stomach, gas and some bloating. The other two time I think it was cross contamination. One was a Burger King grilled ceaser salad and the other Doritos chips that are on the safe list.

Does anyone else seem to "taste" it when they get glutened?

Thanks,

Joni

Hi Joni

I'm sure you already know this but I just wanted to remind you ..... not all flavors of doritos are gluten-free..... as far as the ceasar salad goes , I would guess the dressing was not gluten-free.. I hope there wasn't croutons mixed in it!!!!

hope you get feeling better soon...

I can taste it afterwards. I burp up the food that had the gluten. Like a steak I had the person that cooked it used some seasoning on it that had gluten...I tasted that for the next 24 hours. GROSS! so I believe after it is ingested I can taste it.

Joni,

Most of my problems are with my mouth. It's just AWFUL and mine never goes away! Does your tongue feel like it's constantly scraping against your teeth? I go insane!!!!!!!!

Hello, I was very stick,  with flu like symptoms, but my virus panel came back negative and we couldn’t figure out what’s going on. The doctor then added a celiac panel.  Has anyone ever had such a dramatic change?  What are the odds this is true celiac I am going to have an endoscopy, but it’s expensive and I just feel like why can’t the labs be enough?

Eating out in general is full of risks, but this article may help:

This kind of question is always difficult to give a definitive answer to because of so many variables. One such variable is the sensitivity of the individual celiac to small amounts of gluten cross contamination. An amount that causes a reaction in one celiac many not in another, or at least not be discernable which, of course, does not exactly equate to being "safe".

I don't live in the US, but based on this thread, I wouldn't risk it:   https://www.reddit.com/r/glutenfree/comments/1n2ehw8/cracker_barrel/   This app is helpful: https://www.findmeglutenfree.com/

I see that Cracker Barrel restaurants have a gluten free menu (not all locations, but one confirmed that they do). I was wondering if it is safe for my 5 year old son with celiac disease?
