My daughter is sick right now, just a very mild Earinfection- still her fever spikes over 105. Naturally I treated her with Motrin, little did I know that only the newer packages are glutenfree- gluten and caseinfree to be exact! I was already wondering why she had the runs and extremely bad and stinky gas, even though she was glutenfree and dind't get better. I unintentionally was glutening her. don't they have to write on the package when there is gluten int he Medicine? Most of the Chidlrens Tylenol ones seem to ahve it too, eceopt the Grapeflavor ones or so in the liquids, gues hwat I got- NOT the Grape flavored one!

do we have a list someplace here that shows you in one look what is glutenfree in Meds and what not?

We have the 1 yr. checkup for my daughter today, are the shots glutenfree as well? She got no problems with the Eggprotein that's in most the shots, but I wonder how would she react now if there was Gluten in it? I'll be calling the Hotlines of the Meds for it!

My kids have bowel problems whenever I give them Motrin, too, but they've been new bottles. I think the problem is the Motrin itself can be a little hard on the tummy.

I heard that the shots are only a concern for egg allergies. No gluten.

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
