We had ham steaks last night, and I had leftovers for lunch and ran to the bathroom around 2.

Hatfield says it's gluten-free. This is the ham ingredient list:

Traditional Ham Steak

Cured with Water, Contains less than 2% of Salt, Sugar, Potassium Lactate, Dextrose, Sodium Phosphate, Potassium Chloride, Sodium Diacetate, Sodium Erythorbate, Sodium Nitrite

Is there any chance there's milk product in there somewhere? I read that potassium lactate is not derived from dairy, but other Web sites (of dubious reliability) say that it is.

I am not celiac (husband is) but I am severely lactose intolerant and I avoid foods with Potassium Lactate as I feel that they bother me.....I am not sure but would Potassium Lactate be considered a derivitive of lactose? And lactose would prompt diarrhea and stomach/intestine gas and churning....

Update: I believe now it was the potatoes on the side. I definitely seem to have a nightshade intolerance.

Potassium lactate doesn't have anything to do with lactose even though the name sounds similar.

I too have troubles with the red ones but seem to tolerate the white Idaho's ok, so try them I always thought it was what I cooked them in but I have always used Great Value Oils and They have always been gluten-free just didn't know it til now lol

So check them out and let me know how u do :)

I just ate some ham and roast beef (Kretschmar - lunch meat) and feel my stomach cramp up just like when I was eating gluten before I knew I had celiac disease! there is deffinately something in the lunch meat they are not labeling. It made me sick and im fine with milk and cheese and nuts so its deffinately gluten!

here are the ingredients they list.

but something must be missing.

im going to contact them too.

dextros salt

sodium lactate

potasium lactate

sodium phosphates

sod...erthorbate

sod... diacetate

cultured corn syrup

I have been so good to avoid gluten...I did drink a couple beers last week and was fine, so there is something wrong with lunch meat!

      hi, i want to say thank you to you and @trents   . after 2 phone calls to my GI, her office called me back to tell me that a blood test was “unnecessary” and that we should “follow the gold standard” and since my biopsy did not indicate celiac, to follow the no dairy and sucraid diet. i luckily have expendable income and made an appt for the labcorp blood test that day. i just got my results back and it indicates celiac disease i think 😭   im honestly happy bc now i KNOW and i can go gluten free. and i am SO MAD at this doctor for dismissing me for a simple blood test that wouldn’t have cost her anything !!!!!!!!!!! im sorry, im so emotional right now, i have been sick my whole life and never knew why, i feel so much better already   my results from labcorp:   Celiac Ab tTG TIgA w/Rflx Test Current Result and Flag Previous Result and Date Units Reference Interval t-Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA 01 28 High U/mL 0-3 Negative 0 - 3 Weak Positive 4 - 10 Positive >10 Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) has been identified as the endomysial antigen. Studies have demonstrated that endomysial IgA antibodies have over 99% specificity for gluten sensitive enteropathy. Immunoglobulin A, Qn, Serum 01 245 mg/dL 87-352

      Okay that is really good to know. So with that being positive and the other being high it makes sense she diagnosed her even without the endoscopy. So glad we caught it early. She had so many symptoms though that to me it was clear something was wrong.   yeah I think we had better test us and the other kids as well.

      One doctor suggested it, but then seemed irritated when I asked follow-up questions. Oh well—

      @GlorietaKaro, your respiratory reactions to gluten make me wonder if there might also be an allergic (anaphylaxis) component at work here.
