Hello

I have find out by skin allergy testing two week ago that I was allergic to wheat oats, yeast etc.. so possible Coeliac. I need more inverstigation. So far on gluten free diet and no more pain, bloating, diarrhea, lethargy etc..

Whilst looking on the coeliac website here in australia I learned about DH.

My husband Joe

My husband has Crohn's disease (autoimmunue disorder of the intestines) and psorasis (autoimmunue disorder of the skin)which seems to have clear up since we move to Australia from the UK.

Both conditions are heridetary and can be passed on.

My husband about a year ago started to have those small tiny blisters on the sole of his feet and now are also on his palms and fingers

"He has outbreaks of tiny, horribly-itchy wart/blister type bumps on his hands and sole of feet.He is 36Yrs old

They itch as they are coming "up" quite intensely, and continue to itch while they're "bumps". Then they tend to dry up and peel off leaving little circles of different layers of dry skin "edges" where the bumps had been. Those do not scar, as such, but he has had repeated outbreaks in the same areas which seem to have left his skin a little uneven or callousy in that area for a while.

They do not seem to "spread" from contact, but sometimes He has just one, and sometimes he'll start with one and have a whole series that start and stop at overlapping intervals on different fingers.. often on the sides, near the joint.

He also has a rash on his chest and back the doc said it was warts. Now i think it might be DH aswell but a different form of it.

Hygiene doesn't seem to affect them one way or another"

My 3 yrs old Daughter Elise

She has the same plantar tiny, horribly-itchy wart/blister type bumps on the sole of her feet. She complains that they itch a lot.

She hasn't got any medical condition yet apart from some constipation.

I will try to post some pictures, next time. They are both asleep right now.

Do I need to take them both to a dermatologist or/and start them on a gluten free diet.

The only positive outcome will be that to cook one meal per dinner, will save me a lot of time in the kitchen !! Smile although aur bank account will not think the same thing Crying or Very sad

Could you please respond to this post. Any comments would be really appreciative. Thank you. I really feel for both of them. Confused and wish I could help them.

appologies for bad english grammar, I am french.

April in KC Apprentice

Bonjour Sarah,

Since your husband has psoriasis, is it possible your husband and daughter have palmoplantar pustulosis (PPP)?

Open Original Shared Link

There is about a 1 in 6 chance that they also have gluten sensitivity - about 17% of people with psoriasis will eventually recover on a gluten-free diet. There have been numerous studies that show this. They could both be tested for antigliadin (AGA) antibodies. With this test positive, they may have gluten intolerance even without having full Celiac Disease or a positive TTg or EMA blood test.

There may be other conditions to examine, too. I have DH and have never had it on the soles of my feet or palms of my hands, but maybe someone else here has. Interestingly, my father has gluten sensitivity and psoriasis.

Best wishes!

April

I also meant to add that there is absolutely no harm in starting them both on a gluten-free diet. Many people with autoimmune tendencies will do better on this type of diet.

Bonne chance!

Sounds like dyshidrosis, but since they don't know what causes that I would wouldn't rule gluten out :) .

They both sound like chronic celiac and are having problems because they are not gluten free. Have them tested immediately!!!!

Good luck... God Bless

He is not just a psychiatrist.  He is also a neuroscientist.  And yes, I have already read those studies.   I agree with benfotiamine.  This is short term while glutened/inflammation occurs.  As I had already mentioned, these symptoms no longer exist when this phase passes.  And yes, I know that celiac is a disease of malnutrition.  We are working with a naturopath.

Please do more research before you settle on nicotine. Dr. Paul New house is a psychiatrist.  His latest study involves the effect of nicotine patches on Late Life Depression which has reached no long term conclusions about the benefits.   Effects of open-label transdermal nicotine antidepressant augmentation on affective symptoms and executive function in late-life depression https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39009312/   I'm approaching the subject from the Microbiologist's point of view which shows nicotine blocks Thiamine B1 uptake and usage:   Chronic Nicotine Exposure In Vivo and In Vitro Inhibits Vitamin B1 (Thiamin) Uptake by Pancreatic Acinar Cells https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26633299/   While supplementation with thiamine in the form Benfotiamine can protect from damage done by  nicotine: Benfotiamine attenuates nicotine and uric acid-induced vascular endothelial dysfunction in the rat https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18951979/   I suggest you study the beneficial effects of Thiamine (Benfotiamine and TTFD) on the body and mental health done by Dr. Derrick Lonsdale and Dr. Chandler Marrs.  Dr. Lonsdale had studied thiamine over fifty years.   Hiding in Plain Sight: Modern Thiamine Deficiency https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8533683/ I suggest you read their book Thiamine Deficiency Disease, Dysautonomia, and High Calorie Malnutrition.     Celiac Disease is a disease of malabsorption causing malnutrition.  Thiamine and benfotiamine: Focus on their therapeutic potential https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10682628/

Thanks for your response.  Everything you mentioned he is and has been doing.  Tobacco is not the same as nicotine.  Nicotine, in the form of a patch, does not cause gastrointestinal irritation.  Smoking does. He is not smoking.  Please do your research before stating false information. Dr. Paul Newhouse has been doing research on nicotine the last 40 years at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Im so frustrated and still getting the run around trying to reprove my celiac disease which my past primary ignored for 25 years.I understand that theres a ray of medical that doctors are limited too but not listening and telling the patient ( me) that im not as sensitive as I think and NOT celiac!Correction Mr white coat its not what I think but for cause and affect and past test that are not sticking in my medical records.I get sick violently with foods consumed, not eating the foods will show Im fabulous. After many blood draws and going through doctors I have the HLA- DQ2 positive which I read in a study that Iran conducted that the severity in celiac is in that gene.Im glutenfree and dealing with related issues which core issue of celiac isn't addressed. My skin, right eye, left leg diagestive issues affected. I have high blood pressure because im in pain.Im waisting my time on trying to reprove that Im celiac which is not a disease I want, but unfortunately have. It  has taken over my life personally and professionally. How do I stop getting medically gaslight and get the help needed to bounce back if I ever do bounce back to normal? I thought I was in good care with " celiac specialist " but in her eyes Im good.Im NOT.Sibo positive, IBS, Chronic Fatigue just to name a few and its all related to what I like to call a ghost disease ( celiac) since doctors don't seem to take it seriously.

@Martha Mitchell, your reaction to the lens implant with gluten sounds like it could be an allergic reaction rather than a celiac reaction. It is possible for a celiac to be also allergic to gluten as it is a protein component in wheat, barley and rye.
