So the other night, I had a Cadbury Creme Egg, followed by a chocolate bunny. I checked the labels and, even though they both apparently contain glucose syrup, there was no indication of it being made from wheat - which I believe must be mentioned on the packaging anyway (as it is in the US). Anyway, I was chronically nauseus for the entire following day, and ended up with D that night (which has never in itself been one of my symptoms. I'm more of a C girl ;-)). My question is - was this a result of the glucose syrup? Or is it simply the fact that I was eating dairy for the first time in about two months? Lastly, why would I experience a symptom I have never had before all of a sudden? I don't get it. Have I become more sensitive as a result of not having touched these foods for a good chunk of time??

If I ate that much chocolate I would be extremely nauseous. For me it is the amount of fat in the chocolate and the caffeine that does me in.

But would it be nausea that lasted over a period of four days? With vomiting (sorry for being so explicit) on the third?

Yes, it could be from the glucose syrup. Here in the US, it comes from wheat in the Cadbury eggs. It "might" be the lactose, but probably more likely the gluten.

It is also very normal to have a stronger reaction to gluten after you have been off of it for a while. It's like your body goes haywire because there is gluten where there hasn't been for a long time.

Do you still have your gallbladder? If you do that should be enough fat to trigger a nice gallbladder attack. Can you see your doc tommorow if this continues?

BTW...If your urine turns very dark (like Coke) its a dire emergency and you should go to the ER.

No. I would never eat chocolate again if that happened to me ((I'm a wimp). Yuck, poor you.

Hi!

I read an article recently that said that the severity and type celiac symptoms can vary and change over time but that the intolerance is always with you. This could explain why a lot of celiacs go undiagnosed (and possibly why you are experiencing a new symptom).

How long have you been gluten free? I know a lot of celiacs find that they cannot handle fatty foods until they have fully healed.

Personally I stay away from any processed products unless I am 100% sure that they are gluten free (ie. labeled gluten free or I've called the inquiries line and confirmed) but that's just me.

Also, the vomiting is a bit of a worry as this is not often a celiacs symptom. If you continue vomiting, go to your doctor as you could have a stomach flu or something.

Hey all,

I just want to thank you all so much for your input. The gallbladder theory is extremely interesting; I'm definitely thinking there could be something to it! The thing is, the bunny wasn't a huge one - about the equivalent of a medium sized easter egg (I have no idea how much it weighed). Perhaps that is a lot of chocolate for most people; not me - usually (*hangs head sheepishly*). :) Anyhow, it'll be the last time I try THAT little trick...

      Thanks for the list too makes me realise why I still get symptoms after cutting gluten , all that reading has just made sense to why I'm still struggling , thankyou Scott Adams very insightful , I've been baking to and there is xanthum gum in the flour , I understand now why I still have issues with that too, and ive had to cut dairy also , i had a terrible flare few months ago and my throat also was very irritable and I had sinuses issues all makes sence 👍
