A few weeks back there was a thread about cholesterol, and I promised I would share the results of my husbands trial of lowering his cholesterol without the use of RX drugs.

6 Weeks ago, his total cholesterol was 261

LDL 174

Triglycerides were 210

They were checked yesterday and his total is down to 228

his LDL is 161, but his triglycerides went down to 136, WOW!!

He took Red Rice Yeast and non-flushing niacin... can't exactly tell you which one works as there is currently a debate on whether Red rice yeast actually works now or not... and of course he watched his diet. Handful of almonds everyday...

Hope this helps any of you who are fighting cholesterol and resistant to the drugs like him. His doctor told him she didn't care if he was taking the medicine or not, it was working and to keep doing it.

Happy day!! :D

That is excellent! Those drugs are worse than useless, anyway, they cause heart attacks and strokes. The triglycerides are really the one and only thing to be concerned about, and those really dropped!

      Thank you this really helped.

Okay that is really good to know. So with that being positive and the other being high it makes sense she diagnosed her even without the endoscopy. So glad we caught it early. She had so many symptoms though that to me it was clear something was wrong.   yeah I think we had better test us and the other kids as well.

One doctor suggested it, but then seemed irritated when I asked follow-up questions. Oh well—

@GlorietaKaro, your respiratory reactions to gluten make me wonder if there might also be an allergic (anaphylaxis) component at work here.
    • GlorietaKaro
Thanks to both of you for your responses!  Sadly, even after several years of very strict gluten avoidance, I remember the symptoms well enough that I am too frightened to risk a gluten challenge— heartbeat and breathing problems are scary— Scott, thank you for the specific information— I will call around in the new year to see if I can find anyone. In the meantime, I will carry on has I have been— it’s working! Thanks also for the validation— sometimes I just feel crushed by disbelief. Not enough to make me eat gluten though—
