Could Be Celiac

Hi

I'm new. I have learned a lot from this forum. I am in the process of being tested for celiac. I have had IBS for 15 years. For the past 4 months have had bloating, soft stools, some diarrhea, and a strange ache under my right ribs , losing weight. Went to GI doc and had a colonscopy couple weeks ago. He biopsied the terminal ileum and it came back showing intraepithelial lymphocytes. He now suspects Celiac. I had blood work done 2 days ago for antibody to tissue transglutaminase and I am scheduled to have an EGD in 4 days. I'm very nervous.

Thinking back over the past year, I have had tingling in my hands and feet for which I got worked up for by my family doc. MRI normal. Said it was a virus.

Had palpitations 6 months ago. Went to ER , had low potassium. They told me to increase my potassium intake but couldn't tell me why it was low. (no diarrhea or vomiting at that time)

I was told to stay on my regular diet until after all the testing is done.

I hope I can get an answer to all my symptoms.

Can Celiac show up at the terminal part of the small bowel?

I really guess the biopsies were taken at the end of the duodenum, which is the first part of the small intestines. The scopes really do not go much further.

DD had this pain the same place, to the right, and this is where the start and middle of the duodenum are. she could feel pain at the vey same spotwhen they took the biopsy samples. I could feel my samples being taken there too (they took four samples)

Daura Damm (a sponsor here) uses AN-PEP enzymes and filtering in their brewing process to reduce/remove gluten, and it actually tests below 10ppm (I've see a document where they claim 5ppm).

This topic has come up before on this forum and has been researched. No GMO wheat, barley and rye are commercially available in the USA. Any modifications are from hybridization, not laboratory genetic modification. Better toleration of wheat, barley and rye products in other countries is thought to be due to use of heirloom varieties of these cereal grains as opposed to the hybrids used in the USA which contain much larger amounts of gluten.

Welcome to the forum @Ceekay! If you have celiac disease then you can't eat wheat in other countries because it would still contain gliadin, the harmful part of the grain. Have you been diagnosed with celiac disease?

I can eat wheat products safely and without discomfort when traveling to Mexico, Outer Mongolia, and Japan. I feel that US wheat, barley, and rye are grown from genetically-modified seeds that have had something unhealthy done to them, that causes a bad reaction in many of us.

I think all barley and barley malt  have gluten. I would avoid it. The only gluten-free beer I've tried that tastes good is by Holidaily, a Colorado brewery. Their Fat Randy's IPA is great, except that it's almost impossible to find and grocers won't order it (they're at the mercy of their "food distributors," who seem to hate Holidaily). If you can find any Holidaily, try it--it's great. Never mind Spain -;)
