Traveling To Canada

We live in Pennsylvania, but will be driving to New Brunswick, Canada this summer. We will be staying in a very small town with only a very tiny general store, but we can drive to St. John for a regular grocery store or SuperWalMart. We plan to pack specialty items for our DD 2.5 (like gluten free pretzels, rice pasta, pancake/cookie mix, etc), but we would like to shop for most of the food once in Canada...due to limited space in the car and the need for perishable.

Will we find most similar brands of foods as we'd find here in the US? For example, my daughter's favorites are: Yoplait yogurt, Rice Chex, Fruity Pebbles, Perdue Shortcuts (chicken), Oscar Mayer deli ham, Oscar Mayer or Ball Park hot dogs, Velveeta block cheese, Kraft singles, Tostitos, Eggo syrup, Heinz ketchup. Any ideas where I could find gluten free waffles (my daughter loves Van's blueberry)? If not are there any good substitutes you would suggest for any of the above?

In Ontario, at least, we don't have Chex, Pebbles, Perdue, Egg Syrup. We have the rest, and we do have Van's. We have a lot of glutenfree cereals, including all the envirokids. Piller's meat labels all gluten.

Hi,

I'm from Moncton New Brunswick, about an hour from St-John. I have celiac disease. You'll be able to find some gluten free food at Atlantic SuperStore and at Sobeys in St-John. They have all the gluten free food you are planning to bring with you. In New Brunswick we have Yoplait Yogurt, Velveeta cheese, Kraft singles, Tostitos, eggo syrop, Heinz Ketchup... I'm not sure about the other stuff you mention but we have some similar brand for sure! They have gluten free waffles at super store and sobeys. The brand of gluten free food I prefer is : Glutino, El Peto, Perky's Enviro Kidz, Bob Red Mill and more... I dont know if they have any other store in St-John who sell gluten free food.

Here's the link for the Canadian Celiac Association : Open Original Shared Link

Also here's the link for the Moncton Chapters of Celiac Disease : Open Original Shared Link

In Moncton the contact person for the celiac disease association is : Mike Murphy 1-506-532-0106

In St-John the contact person for the celiac disease association is : Myrtelle Speight 1-506-672-4454

They will be able to help you better than me. I also have this link : Open Original Shared Link

It's a Gluten free restaurant in Riverview but it's about an hour from St-John. They also sell gluten free products.

I hope you'll enjoy your stay. Sorry for my English..I'm French!

Julie

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
