I Am In Agonizing Pain

Ursa Major

Hi everybody, I would appreciate your prayers. Some of you will remember me having an abscess and being in awful pain with my last left bottom molar a few weeks ago. The antibiotics got rid of the inflammation then, and I saw an oral surgeon who was going to attempt doing a root canal.

But his nurse took my blood pressure, and due to doing a parasite cleanse with herbs that I am intolerant to, my blood pressure was getting too high. They said to book the root canal when I was done with the cleanse. The oral surgeon tested my tooth and warned me that it was in such bad shape that it was quite possible that the root was cracked. And if he would find during the procedure that it was, he would end up extracting it instead of doing the root canal.

I was going to call them today or tomorrow to book the root canal. But last night I started to have agonizing pain again. My lymph node is dreadfully swollen, too, and very painful. I hardly slept all night, with the pain being so bad that no painkillers made any difference. I ended up taking two 50mg codeine contin (12 hour release) plus two extra strength Tylenol, and it didn't do a thing other than knocking me out enough to get some fitful sleep.

So, this morning I called my dentist and told him I needed to get that tooth out NOW, because I don't think I can survive the weekend otherwise.

He was afraid that with the inflammation, and with my history of my lower jaw not wanting to freeze to begin with, that the freezing may not work. And he only does sedation when procedures are booked well ahead of time, as he doesn't normally have a nurse to do sedation, unless he specifically books her.

So, he booked me with an oral surgeon in the next city to have the tooth extracted tomorrow afternoon. He does sedation all the time and has a full-time nurse there.

Fortunately my husband was going to work from home tomorrow anyway, so he will take me there and back, as of course I won't be allowed to drive after sedation, plus I am not supposed to be alone for 24 hours afterwards.

I am going to see my naturopathic doctor at 1:30 to get some homeopathic remedies to aid in healing. And at 3:45 I am supposed to have a consultation with the oral surgeon, and having to pick up my x-ray from the other oral surgeon on my way. What a pain! (literally)

So, I am now getting a terrible headache. In fact, my whole left side of my face and neck are pulsating with pain. I don't think I will get much sleep tonight, either. And obviously, having the tooth extracted tomorrow will result in more pain for the weekend (even though it may not feel as bad as now, I don't know).

And on Tuesday I am going to drive to Ottawa (a 5 1/2 hour drive) to attend the ballet recital of two of my granddaughters on Wednesday. I hope I will be able to do that, or the girls would be very disappointed.

I can't believe this is happening! But hopefully in the end it will all come out right.

Oh my gosh, Ursa...that sounds awful! :(

I will keep you in my thoughts and say an extra prayer tonight for you :) I think you will feel better after the procedure than you do now--not pain free, probably, but better. We'll think positively about that!

Thank goodness you were able to get in to have it done before the weekend, considering all the complications.....Take care with all you have to do today--let us know how you did when you feel up to it.

Okay, here is an update. I might as well let you guys know what is happening while I wait to get tired enough to maybe sleep despite the pain.

The oral surgeon is an awesome young man (probably in his thirties) with a great attitude, who takes the time to answer questions graciously (it doesn't hurt that he is very handsome :D ). I explained about all my pills to him, and why I will need to take more hydrocortisone, and that I will skip my fludrocortisone tomorrow morning to keep my blood pressure down (it goes up with stress).

And he told me that he wasn't worried about all that, because he could tell that I knew that I know what I am doing and that I had it under control. Which I am sure I do, but he sounds more confident about my abilities than I feel!

He prescribed endocet (another name for percoset I believe), a heavy duty painkiller. While I am still in quite a bit of pain even with it, it works an awful lot better than what I tried beforehand. Mind you, this one makes me very drowsy and uncoordinated, so I have problems even walking straight, I am sure I look drunk! I wouldn't dare drive while taking it.

He also prescribed another antibiotic, which I've taken two pills of already. Hopefully it will kick in soon.

Anyway, I think I will go to bed now and try to sleep. I am not allowed to eat for six hours before the procedure, and I was told that I need to eat something in the morning. Meaning that I will need to eat breakfast at 7:00 AM. After which I will likely go back to bed until 10:00 AM.

I am not looking forward to having my tooth pulled, but I am sure looking forward to the pain stopping. It is wearing me down.

I don't know when I will be back on, but probably by tomorrow evening the latest.

Hopefully when the tooth is out the pain will be resolved. Having a hot tooth is no fun, I didn't even last 24 hours with the last one I had and you must be in so much pain right now having dealt with it for a few days now. Although your first concern is the pain I do hope the med he gave you was safe and that everything goes smoothly.

Hey, it just occurred to me that if that tooth has a mercury amalgam, and he pulls it, maybe some of your other problems will improve, or even resolve once it's GONE.

Hey, it just occurred to me that if that tooth has a mercury amalgam, and he pulls it, maybe some of your other problems will improve, or even resolve once it's GONE.

Well, that tooth used to have a mercury filling. But because part of the tooth broke off about two years ago, it was replaced by a white filling then.

I am taking it one step at a time. I had seen my naturopathic doctor two days ago (before my tooth suddenly decided to go berserk) and decided to do a hair analysis. And he was going to help me find a holistic dentist.

So, yesterday morning I snipped a bunch of hair off from the nape of my neck (underneath the top hair) for that analysis. They prefer hair that hasn't been washed for two days so it isn't contaminated by shampoo. I did that, had a shower and then called my dentist.

I need to get to the bottom of my health problems that aren't caused by gluten. Heavy metals may be a problem, teeth can have a huge influence on health as well. If the hair analysis and subsequent possible treatment for whatever it shows won't make a difference, I will consider testing for Lyme with Igenex next.

I had been thinking that my regular doctor would never cooperate with that. But it won't matter, because I found out that my naturopathic doctor WILL do blood testing and would be quite happy to help me with it!

My night was pretty bad with very fitful sleep, but at least I did get some sleep. I think I will go back to bed now (I ate breakfast and took the antibiotic), I feel zonked.

I wish I had a cute young dentist.

Y'know, I had all 4 wisdom teeth out with full anesthesia and they had to cut to get them and everything, and yeah, it hurt. But it didn't hurt as bad as what you're describing sounds like. I think you'll feel better, at least after a day or two, once this is done. Don't forget your probitoics, with all these antibiotics in your system!

Thanks, everybody. As you can see, I am still alive.

Well, apparently that tooth wasn't an easy one to get out, and I had a full anesthetic. The antibiotics had started working by the time I had the tooth pulled, which is good.

When I woke up, the nurse wanted to change the gauze pad, and found that I didn't need another one, as the bleeding had stopped. She was very surprised at that, as usually it won't stop for many hours.

But my naturopathic doctor expected that, as he says that the treatments he was having me take would have that effect, and would help me heal much quicker.

The sheet they gave me said that the swelling would be at it's worst 48 hours later. In fact, it was 48 hours two hours ago, and the swelling has been going down steadily since last night. It is still visible, but getting better all the time.

I still took Endocet last night to sleep, and used ice, but tonight I am sure I won't need it.

Thursday and Friday morning really ALL my teeth were hurting. Today none of them do any more. The pain was radiating to my whole mouth from that bad tooth.

So, I am glad it is out. I am feeling very exhausted still, but I think I will be able to go to Ottawa on Tuesday, to see my little granddaughters (8 and almost 6) in their ballet recital on Wednesday.

I take both Benfotiamine and TTFD.   You might want to start with the Benfotiamine for a few days and then add in the TTFD.   You can look for NeuroMag (Magnesium Threonate).  A magnesium glycinate is fine, too.  Doctor's Best is a good brand.  Don't take more than 300mg total per day of magnesium or it may have a laxative effect.   Be sure to take the B Complex.  The Benfotiamine and TTFD will need the other B vitamins.

Life Extension Benfotiamine with Thiamine has 100MG of Ben and 25 of Thia..... Do you think this is the one I should take or Objective Nutrients Thiamax (TTFD) which has 100MG Thiamine. How much magnesium should I look for? I take the womens 50+ multivitamin since consumerlabs stated and tested that it has the right amount of vitamins and not too much for men and doesn't have BHT which has shown to cause liver cancer in animals. I was never big with multivitamins as well as doctors I just read when I was first going gluten free to take a multi but I think I will stop them and work on trying the super B Thia and Ben, Mag.

Hi all I’ve been celiac for 4 years now, I’ve done pretty well to avoid it thus far. Last night I took the wrong pizza out of the freezer and ate the whole lot!! The non gluten and gluten pizza boxes are both very similar.   2 hours later I was throwing up violently on my hands and knees over the loo.  .horrendous stomach pains,  My hair was wet from sweat every part of my body was wet. What an awful experience, just had a bad headache today  fortunately.    Is their any products/pills anyone takes if they have realised they have just been glutened to make the symptoms a little less worse.  thanks

Yes, do take your B Complex with Benfotiamine or Thiamax.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins in the B Complex to make energy and enzymes, so best to take them together earlier in your day.  Taking them too close to bedtime can keep you too energetic to go to sleep.   The Life Extension Benfotiamine with Thiamine is Benfotiamine and Thiamine Hydrochloride, another form of thiamine the body likes.  The Thiamine HCl just helps the Benfotiamine work better.   Read the label for how many milligrams are in them.  The Mega Benfotiamine is 250 mgs.  Another Benfothiamine has 100 mgs.  You might want to start with the 100 mg.    I like to take Thiamax in the morning with a B Complex at breakfast.  I take the Benfotiamine with another meal.  You can take your multivitamin with Benfotiamine at lunch.   Add a magnesium supplement, too.  Thiamine needs magnesium to make some important enzymes.  Life Extension makes Neuro-Mag, Magnesium Threonate, which is really beneficial.  (Don't take Magnesium Oxide.  It's not absorbed well, instead it pulls water into the digestive tract and is used to relieve constipation.)  I'm not a big fan of multivitamins because they don't always dissolve well in our intestines, and give people a false sense of security.  (There's videos on how to test how well your multivitamin dissolves.).  Multivitamins don't prevent deficiencies and aren't strong enough to correct deficiencies.   I'm happy you are trying Thiamax and Benfotiamine!  Keep us posted on your progress!  I'm happy to answer any questions you may have.

I looked further into Thiamax Vitamin B1 by objective nutrients and read all the great reviews. I think I will give this a try. I noticed only possible side affect is possibly the first week so body adjusts. Life Extensions carries Benfotiamine with Thiamine and the mega one you mentioned. Not sure if both in one is better or seperate. some reviews state a laxative affect as side affect. SHould I take with my super B complex or just these 2 and multivitamin? I will do further research but I appreciate the wonderful explanation you provided on Thiamine.
