Not A Rant, Just A Ramble

I am not sure if I got glutened or if it is the ice cream I ate. Tummy feels yucky, kinda hurts like it would if I ate gluten and have spent too much time in the bathroom.

Yesterday I had lunch at Wendys, I had a frosty, baked spud with "butter" and sour cream and a chili. I can usually have the spud and chili no problems so I am thinking frosty? Or the ice cream I ate the night before (haggen daz coffee) and the night before and the night before.

 Its probably the ice cream. If I eat it once in awhile, which for me is maybe once every couple of weeks or any other dairy for that matter.

I just don't expect similar symptoms from the dairy. But at the same time I am pretty sure that is what the problem is.

Something at Wendys I never thought of before, or noticed. When I order a baked potato, the person that gets it to put in the plastic tray, she was wearing gloves BUT before she got my spud she pulled out a tortilla and made a wrap. The spud, well she squeezed and dropped it in the tray. I didn't eat the skin and barely ate the spud so it is slightly possible this could be the problem but considering the amount of dairy I ate I don't know.

But now it is something for me to remember, ask for clean hands/gloves to handle my spud. UGH I don't want to when they are so busy to ask for anything extra even though I know its for my health it just feels so hard to do in front of the entire crowded place. If it isn't crowded, no issues.

BB,

The answer is easy. You broke the gluten-free fast food rule #1. Never order more than one item. Your tempting the devil. What, you think you got a free pass or something? You can just order whatever you want? You got an autoimmune disease girl. You should feel lucky just to order one fast food item and not get sick.

Don't get greedy! :D

I know I definitely got glutened this week, we're still not sure from what. for some reason, my DH bumps travel every time I get them (It's been over a year) and this time they're on my ears. Yeah. My ears. And I wear glasses. fortunately the headache and diarrhea has passed, it wasn't a bad glutening. I react proportionately, most people are apparently all or nothing with their reactions. I was able to work at least. Just wanted to throw some of my own whining in there. I don't have any advice for you Barb, other than lay off the dairy, woman.

I KNOW I got glutened at Wendy's once. I had the chili and a baked potato. We were travelling and I was otherwise eating only labelled gluten free food that I had brought and I was so happy to stop at a Wendy's to eat a hot meal during a long drive. I was definitely glutened - stomach clenched, tired, nauseated, headache, seeking the bathroom. Nice...

I had posted it on a bulletin board and most replies said that Wendy's should be safe - however one person replied that sometimes extra cooked burgers are taken from their buns and mashed into the chili. I guess it's possible...definitely some contamination somewhere. I haven't eaten at a Wendy's since - but mostly because there isn't one where I live.

I wonder if this is an unauthorized practice that gets done anyway - sort of like dumping the practice cones back into the hopper at DQ.

Doesn't Wendy's keeps their hamburgers (bun-free) in a warming drawer thingy so they can make it to order with your requested condiments? Not saying you weren't cc'd somehow, but I don't think that the hamburger-off-a-bun scenerio is it.

There is another possibility with the chili also. Many of these places give absolutely no education as to the dangers of CC or any other health related issue. It is up to management to teach them and managers can work for months before they are required to attend a health dept seminar, if they are required at all. Depends on the state. As someone who worked in the food industry for years I am unfortunatlely only too aware of all that can go wrong. The kid who dips a cracker into his Mom's chili at home may not think anything of dipping one into the pot at work when noone is looking.

I don't know why but you made me lol a lot! :P

I was hungry, what can I say. I don't eat much during the day usually and I only work part time but Wed is a full day and I was on the road and I and I and i..... you get the idea.

Lara bars live in my purse but they are only so filling. It would seem I need to figure out something better for Wed when I am gone all day.

Wendys cooks burgers just for the chili but I was wondering does anything else go on the same griddle? PLUS as I said the person loading the food touched EVERYTHING with her gloved hands so....If I were working there and I made a burger for someone then went and started cooking burgers for the chili would I change gloves first. Probably not.

:( Wendys is the only place I eat when I have to eat something out that is quick and easy. Cripes, it is my last vestige of normalcy.

So, is the butter real butter that came from a cow and is packaged in little foil packets, or is it that melted crap they ladle out of a warming pot ? Because you so do not want to eat any ersatz butter flavored oil product in a restaurant.

They give you little manufactured containers of what I call "air-whipped spread". It's not butter nor is it even real margarine. The little manufactured containers of sour cream are really good though. You tear off a corner of the nifty waxed-paper container and squeeze out a dollop here and there, or on each bite if you like. You can really control your sour cream distribution with those things.

Sour cream dog story.

My stepdaughter is living with us for a while (you never get rid of all of 'em do you?), and has a Doberman. One night we had Wendy's and I had a baked potato. I was eating in the living room on the coffee table and got up to get something. When I returned, LuLu was licking something white off the floor. Then I noticed my package of sour cream was gone. We couldn't find it anywhere, never did. She ate the actual container!

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
