Has anyone had trouble concentrating after going gluten free??

I've been at it for a couple months now, minus a couple CC incidents. I started a new job and I am just having the hardest time focusing on what people are telling me and memorizing information, it's like my brain does not want to work and I get frustrated!!!! When I was eating gluten I remeber getting like this when I needed food, but I make sure I eat just before work now, so I don't understand....I have been under a lot of stress too, but nothing that I havent experienced in the past, maybe this is just a part of my body balancing itself??? I hope so....

Instead of writing the same response twice, the above is a link to another thread in another section of the board with pretty much the same question. Hope it helps. :)

Are you taking any vitamines? My doctor did some blood work on me and I was low on Vitamin B12 -- once I started taking B12, Multi Vitamin and another vitamin I started to get more engery and concentrate better at work.

Do you work at the type of place where you can bring a snack? Such as apples and peanut butter?

I've noticed when I get busy during the week and don't have time to cook I tend to make frozen (gluten free) items that are greasy -- this tends to slow me down and I feel kind out of it.

Hope you figure out what it is

Good Luck :)

I went through this a lot. From what I hear, as your body purges the toxins from the mal-absorption your mind gets "fuzzy." There are many supplements that will help - you may want to ask a practitioner or look into it on the net. I can't remember what I took - there have been so many supplements, my mind is a blur. :0) It does get better with time - as do all the side effects of gluten-ation.

Yes happened to me, and is quite annoying. Something to try is having 1x Zinc 30-50mg (whole food, ie New Chapters) and some L-Glutamine before bed, I found this helped me. Could also try avoiding high caffeine, high copper foods (dark chocolate, liver, shellfish), and limiting high casein containing foods (cow's milk products). Another important brain food that may help is choline, which can be acquired from egg yolks or soy lecithin granules.

I agree with the B12 recommendation. The most beneficial form is methylcobalamin. I have had very positive results with it.

Do be careful which product you choose, as most are cyanocobalamin, which actually has cyanide! Sometimes I think there are companies bent on killing us.

HAHA yeah I think that too sometimes with the companues  I will look into the b12. I'm hoping to see a GI doc soon because I've just started having severe constipation for the past few days, to the point where I have cramps and its right there, I have to go, but wont come out! and then there's blood-ahhh! and mucous, which I havent had since I was on gluten

You are right to be proactive, as research does indicate that individuals with celiac disease can have a higher predisposition to enamel defects, cavities, and periodontal issues, even with excellent oral hygiene. While many people with celiac successfully undergo orthodontic treatment without complication, your caution is valid. It may be beneficial to seek a consultation with an orthodontist who is familiar with managing patients with autoimmune conditions or who is willing to collaborate with your daughter's gastroenterologist or a periodontist. They can perform a thorough assessment of her current oral health, discuss your specific concerns about recession and decay, and create a tailored hygiene plan. This second opinion could provide a clearer risk-benefit analysis, helping you decide if addressing the cosmetic concern of the lower teeth is worth the potential risks for your daughter, especially if they are not currently affecting function or her confidence.

It's strange because I'm pretty sure not too long ago I picked up a loaf of bread with B vitamins, but I can't find a single one now.  Probably cutbacks, everyone's trying to save money now!

Eating grains typically depletes certain B vitamins, so I'm not sure why they decided to fortify with calcium and iron, but hopefully we'll see more B vitamin fortification in gluten-free products going forward.

@HAUS, I was at an event in the UK a few years back. I remember ringing the restaurant ahead to inquire about the gluten free options. All I wanted was a few gluten free sandwiches, which they provided and they were delicious. The gluten-free bread they used was Warbutons white bread and I remember mentioning it on this site before. No harm in trying it once. It's fortified with Calcium and Iron. https://www.warburtonsglutenfree.com/warbs_products/white-loaf/ The only other gluten-free bread that I've come across that is fortified is Schar with Iodized salt, nothing else.
