Log Cabin Syrup

I had read on a couple posts here that original Log Cabin syrup was not gluten free. This past weekend I accidentally ate some and waited for my 'I've been glutened' symptoms to begin. Well, they didn't. So I decided to contact Pinnacle Foods to make sure and here is the reply I got today:

July 24, 2008

Thank you for taking the time to inquire about Pinnacle Foods Group, LLC

and the products we produce which may be gluten-free. We appreciate your

interest in our company and our products.

There is no gluten in the Log Cabin Butter Flavored Syrup, in LC Original,

LC Lite or LC Sugar Free syrups. Log Cabin Country Kitchen syrups are

also gluten free.

We appreciate the time you've taken to share your specific concerns with

us, as it helps us to become aware of consumer needs. Thank you again for

your contact.

Sincerely,

Lena Grant

Hope this makes someone else as happy as it makes me! :D

It's too confusing to keep up with syrups, especially if they do not list all sources of gluten in the ingredients. I don't think Pinnacle foods has a gluten disclosure policy, but does any one know for sure? We just buy pure maple syrup now. There is only one ingredient, which means there is much less to worry about. :)

I've also switched to pure maple syrup because there's less to worry about, but I used to LOVE Log Cabin when I was younger! Thanks for the heads up.

Log Cabin used to be formulated with barley. Does anyone know if that has changed or is this a case like Rice Dream where it can now be labeled gluten-free?

Puddy Explorer

My original question to Pinnacle was whether their Log Cabin products contain wheat, rye, barley or oats and their response was that there was no gluten in their products. So I'm going to assume there is no barley. But I guess it wouldn't hurt for someone else to ask again if they are worried. All I know is it didn't make me ill when I ate it.

I would be interested to hear if they did reformulate, b/c I called in 2006 and they told me that there was indeed barley malt in the natural flavorings and that the only gluten-free product they had was the Log Cabin Country Kitchen, which is not sold here.

We use Aunt Jemima now or real maple syrup (DS doesn't like this, though I do).

Just found today on the back of the Vermont Maid syrup that it states "Gluten Free". Yeah!!!!

Interesting, when I suffered for a few months with ectopics I noticed that carbohydrates would cause indigestion and bloating in my stomach, then that would lead to my heart skipping beats, and I could feel it in my throat, it was very unsettling.  My last serious bout of this was after eating a Muller Rice Pudding for breakfast.   I happened to be wearing a 48 hour halter at the time and cardiology picked it up, but they weren't worried about what they saw. There was some British doctor who'd made some videos on the Vagus nerve that I remember watching at the time which made sense of what I was experiencing, there did seem to be some sort of connection.

I asked my cardiologist about stopping vitamins.  He said his tests account for all detectable vitamins from sources other than food.  I only need to stop them for a couple of days.  He has me keep records of meds and vitamins I've ingested over the past 10 days and prior and he does his calculations.

Reply to treats I try and eat to bring up the glucose. Sometime I get up 3 times a night and eat something. I don't think food is the issue. A lot of the food they say should help doesn't.  Many mornings my level is 59 and I feel sick, sometimes for hours. It has been recommended I go to an Endocrinologist.
