Ds Age 3 Tested Neg, Older Sis Is Celiac

my son, age 3, tested neg for celiac via bloodwork.

my dd, age 9, just diagnosed this summer.

i havent had the baby tested yet.

i know children are famous for innacurate testing.

how long should i wait to retest?

its not that i want them to be positive, but i think it would be easier the sooner you know.

some people NEVER test positive on bloodtests.

Ask for the gene test - or get it through Enterolab. It's a valid question for siblings of Celiacs - that way, if they don't have the HLA-DQ2 or DQ8, you can stop worrying about it. If they do have it, you consider removing gluten before there are symptoms...or at least test yearly.

I and my three sons were all symptomatic. I had some of the antibodies, but not all. DS#1 was 7 and tested positive for all the antibodies. DS#2 was 3 and tested negative for all. BUT he was symptomatic with "D"...had lost 5 lbs. in several months after turning 3. So I had the gene test done for him, and he has HLA-DQ2. So I removed gluten, with good result.

As a child, he will remain gluten free. There's too much developing for me to put it at risk. Maybe as a young adult, he will gluten challenge.
