Problems With Meat And Non-allergens?

There are so many things that make me feel sedated and horrible including casein, soy, and fish but some are non-allergens such as meat.

Whenever I eat meat, I get the same reactions that I get when I eat casein and soy. I keep thinking to myself that meat isn't an allergen and that it can't be the cause of these symptoms - that I have to be overlooking something else in my diet. Yet everytime I try to reintroduce it, it hits me.

I can't tell if chicken causes it, but I definitely get the reaction from beef/ham. I doubt it's something like an additive such as sodium nitrate or MSG as it's not just lunch meat but even the raw meats as well. I also get the same reaction to fish, so I'm thinking that maybe I have a hard time digesting protein?

I take pancreatin with it, but that doesn't seem to help much. And I know most people feel tired after eating large meals, but this is different. Almond butter also does the same and almonds are not a common allergy/intolerance. The more I eat, the more I think it's just any high protein or hard to digest meal.

Is my digestive tract perhaps damaged to the point where I should avoid any hard to digest meals for the time being? I've been gluten free for over a year so meh, maybe I need more time? I've been taking Twinlab pancreatin supplements (even two to three following a large meal) and they don't seem to have any effect whatsoever.

How long have you been gluten-free? It could be that you are not healed enough yet and are still having a bit of trouble digesting the fats in foods. I'm sure those more knowledgeable will chime in. Definitely stick only with those foods that feel good for now. A food log is invaluable. Be sure to document all you eat and how you feel. I've kept one for three years and it is so useful- AND I do work full-time along with part-time work, have two teenagers and am in grad school- IT CAN BE DONE!!!!!

I have felt like that before! It's like there is a brick in your stomach and it takes forever to digest it!

Are you currently taking probiotics or digestive enzymes, Wolly?

What about eating pineapple with your meal... it has the natural enzymes that help turn meat into digestible amino acids.

Gluten is not a problem for me but I have gastroparesis. So most meat is hard for me to digest. I can do chicken breast (mostly in the form of Ian's nuggets and canned chicken), tuna and ground beef. That's it! I have to be really careful with the raw vegetables and can't eat some of them at all. Like broccoli. Or too much lettuce.

      Hi @KathyR37 and a very warm welcome here.  I am so very sorry that you are going through all of this. I just wanted to check, have you ever been tested for any other gastrointestinal conditions? Cristiana

      @KathyR37, I would suspect that in addition to gluten intolerance, you have other food intolerances/sensitivities. This is very common in the celiac community. The most common offenders are oats, dairy, soy, corn and eggs with dairy and oats being the big two. Have you considered this? Have you tried keeping a food diary to detect patterns?

      thank you for your advice.   I have always taken them and I use Stonehedge because they are in a glass bottle, but don't have to be refrigerated.  I also like they are 3rd party tested and state gluten free. But you never know if something better has come alone over the years.

      Thank you for your response. I have already learned about the info you sent but i appreciate your effort. I am the only one in my family cursed by this disease. I have to cook for them too. I make sure that my utensils are free of gluten and clean after using them for other food. I use non-porous pots and pans and  gloves when cooking for them. One huge problem I have is a gag reflex out of this world and if something doesn't taste good it is not going down. Most commercially made breads and such taste like old cardboard.Pastas are about the same. I did find one flour that I like and use it regularly, but it is so expensive! All gluten free food is way more expensive. I only eat twice a day because I cannot afford to buy all that. We live on a very low income so my food purchases are quite limited.
