Traveling On Tour Bus?

SO I'm overly excited that I may have the chance in the near future to go on the road and play music. At the same time I'm freaking out b/c the last thing I want is to get sick. There is a fridge and freezer on the bus so I suppose I could pre-make myself some meals, but the fridge is only so big and I'm not the only person who would be using it. I'm sure there will be a lot of eating out going on, but I try to stay away from that for obvious reasons. I'm sure I could find stores along the way when I need more food. I cant rely on processed foods and need to eat a lot of veggies otherwise....C! God, this disease sucks sometimes!-lol...

Has anyone ever traveled on a bus or went on the road for a long time?? I have no idea how long i'll be gone, I probably shouldnt even worry about it right now until I find out......but all these things go through my mind since I always think way ahead...sometimes it's a good and bad thing-lol and then theres the issue of being able to work-out. I need to go running at least 5 times a week otherwise I turn miserable! and nobody else that I'll be traveling with is athletic...they are quite the oppositte-lol

We have an RV and we travel for a week or so at a time sometimes for work. The tour bus will also have a stove so you'll be able to pan fry fresh meats and what not. Luckily there are thousands of naturally gluten free foods. I'm sure you have your own lists of those. Stock up on specialty items that you'll need like flour for coating meat, crackers, Tinkyada pasta, etc. You should be able to fit them in a compartment somewhere. When we travel I rely heavily on a portable Weber gas grill. We eat a lot of baked potato, steak or chicken, and Steamfresh veggies. These things are all found easily in most any grocery store. :) Hot dogs and hamburgers also are easy if you don't need/want a bun. We never do. Hormel has a gluten free list and you can find most of those items in any store as well. Their microwave meals are easy and quick. Don't worry too much about it. I would also either bring your own personal toaster or get some ToastaBags so you don't gluten yourself if you toast a bagel or bread. :) And BTW, congratulations!!!

Providing you can stay well, it sound like a great experience!

Read Open Original Shared Link thread and PM the thread originator for more ideas. She sounds like she has been doing it for awhile.

Is there a digestive enzyme that helps build a healthier gut? I see people taking them but not sure what really works

So the tTG-IGA at 28 is positive for celiac disease. There are some other medical conditions that can cause elevated tTG-IGA but this is unlikely. There are some people for whom the dairy protein casein can cause this but by far the most likely cause is celiac disease. Especially when your small bowel lining is "scalloped". Your Serum IGA 01 (aka, "total IGA") at 245 mg/dl is within normal range, indicating you are not IGA deficient. But I also think it would be wise to take your doctor's advice about the sucraid diet and avoiding dairy . . . at least until you experience healing and your gut has had a chance to heal, which can take around two years. After that, you can experiment with adding dairy back in and monitor symptoms. By the way, if you want the protein afforded by dairy but need to avoid casein, you can do so with whey protein powder. Whey is the other major protein in dairy.

hi, i want to say thank you to you and @trents   . after 2 phone calls to my GI, her office called me back to tell me that a blood test was “unnecessary” and that we should “follow the gold standard” and since my biopsy did not indicate celiac, to follow the no dairy and sucraid diet. i luckily have expendable income and made an appt for the labcorp blood test that day. i just got my results back and it indicates celiac disease i think 😭   im honestly happy bc now i KNOW and i can go gluten free. and i am SO MAD at this doctor for dismissing me for a simple blood test that wouldn’t have cost her anything !!!!!!!!!!! im sorry, im so emotional right now, i have been sick my whole life and never knew why, i feel so much better already   my results from labcorp:   Celiac Ab tTG TIgA w/Rflx Test Current Result and Flag Previous Result and Date Units Reference Interval t-Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA 01 28 High U/mL 0-3 Negative 0 - 3 Weak Positive 4 - 10 Positive >10 Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) has been identified as the endomysial antigen. Studies have demonstrated that endomysial IgA antibodies have over 99% specificity for gluten sensitive enteropathy. Immunoglobulin A, Qn, Serum 01 245 mg/dL 87-352

      Thank you this really helped.

Okay that is really good to know. So with that being positive and the other being high it makes sense she diagnosed her even without the endoscopy. So glad we caught it early. She had so many symptoms though that to me it was clear something was wrong.   yeah I think we had better test us and the other kids as well.
