I will be going to Tampa, FL for the first time in a few weeks. I'm staying at a hotel near the airport. Does anyone have any suggestions on Celiac safe restaurants nearby?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Cindy

Hi Cindy!

There is a PF Chang's at the Westshore Mall which is maybe 3 minutes from the airport. We also have Pei Wei, Outback, BoneFish and Carrabas nearby. Very close to where you will be. If you have $$$ and want a really nice place the Capital Grill at International Mall has a gluten-free menu. Or Ruth Chris Steakhouse.

Enjoy your stay!

Almost everything at Chipotle is also safe. Just stay away from the tortillas and chips and ask them to change their gloves before making your salad or burrito bowl.

There is a restaurant called CDB's Southside Italian Restaurant. The owners niece, I believe, has Celiac. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. They do not carry gluten-free pasta, but will make any meal gluten-free. Also, if you call a day in advance, they will make you a gluten free PIZZA!!!!

Maggiano's also has a gluten-free menu. They carry gluten-free pasta. Also, if you go at non-peak hours, you can bring your own breadcrumbs, etc.... and they will make you whatever you want. The chef ALWAYSl comes out to your table to talk to personally take your order and to make sure he understands your specific needs and desires. They always make me something that's not even on the menu! (I really like my pasta with a ton of veggies! ;- ) )

I hope this helps a little. Enjoy your trip!

Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.
