I ran across this in the Atlanta Journal & Constitution and thought I would share. Some of the comments are very entertaining. I'm glad to know that it's not just us.

My Sister wont participate in her office's monthly potluck. She says it is because she has seen how some of those women leave the bathroom. It aint pretty. She just always brings her own food and says she is on a diet. :P

Oh my gosh, that was hilarious.

I have NEVER liked potlucks. It just seems like food poisoning is lurking under every spoon...

Yeah I know. I'm glad that I have a legitimate excuse for not partaking.

I tried to participate in a Holiday Potluck pre-gluten-free. I made one of my famous pies, and was kind of excited by the prospect. I showed up early to help out and ended up being bossed around endlessly by the woman in charge. At one point someone was bringing over a large crock pot, and as I started to step out of the way she decided I wasn't moving fast enough and *pushed* me out of the way, hard. I couldn't believe anyone would do that to anyone else. I don't think I've been shoved like that since I was on a playground in middle school. I'm still appalled. Needless to say, I left and then the next year I was diagnosed Celiac and just said I couldn't.

I’ve used tinctures and made my own edibles with gluten-free ingredients to stay safe. Dispensary staff don’t always know about gluten, so I double-check labels or just make my own.

It's great to hear that there are some good doctors out there, and this is an example of why having a formal diagnosis can definitely be helpful.

Update: I have a wonderful new gastroenterologist. She wants to be sure there’s nothing more serious, like refractory celiac, going on. She ordered various tests including some micronutrient tests that no one has ever ordered before.  I’m deficient in folate and zinc and starting supplements for both. I’m so glad I decided to go to a new GI!

Autoimmune diseases tend to cluster. Many of them are found close together on the chromosomes.

Just giving another update... I was referred to rheumatology, and they suspect that I may also be dealing with fibromyalgia (it has not been formally diagnosed, but just suggested at this point).  So, I am continuing with the anti-inflammatory diet and vitamins and still working to keep getting rid of all these hidden gluten sources, but I also do have another possible explanation for some of the issues that I'm dealing with.
