Constant Tiredness/fatigue

Lately I have been constantly tired and I have no idea why. I get somewhere between seven and ten hours of sleep every night, I work out at the gym about every other day, and I used to never ever take naps (but now I just cant help it, I need to). Also, when I walk around for more than a few minutes I start to get extremely fatigued.

I hate hate hate feeling tired and fatigued all the time...I just feel like a blob. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong? Some sort of vitamin deficiency maybe? I take a multivitamin everyday. I also am dairy free. Any help and ideas would be greatly appriciated!

I was like that not long ago. I still get tired very easily from exercise, but I don't NEED to take naps and I don't get so cranky and exhausted all the time.

Some possibilities...

- hypothyroidism

- vitamin D deficiency

- pernicious anemia (B-12)

- hemolytic anemia (iron)

- macrocytic anemia (enlarged red blood cells)

- not enough red blood cells

- fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome

- some other autoimmune disorder... so many cause fatigue!

Have you had a CBC recently? Are there any symptoms bothering you besides the fatigue?

I also recommend getting a CBC. You never know what will show up. I was still experiencing some fatigue and went in. The doc tested me for the usual, thyroild, anemia, etc. as listed. Below normal potassium was the only thing that showed up and when I looked it up, fatigue was one of the symptoms. I started eating more potassium rich foods and like magic my energy level went up and I no longer felt that fatigue. I also went in and got tested for diabetes because I suspected it and have several risk factors. It was positive too so I know now that some of my fatigue may have been caused by that.

Yes, I would start with CBC. If you have good insurance, also insist on a FREE T3 test and a FREE T4 test and a TSH test. Those are all thyroid - and they are not on a CBC. If you are paying for stuff, I'd start with the CBC since it tells multiple things.

Remember, even if the tests come back 'normal', watch for low or high 'normal' results. You could be subclinical with things, like I am.

Anyway, good luck. You could also be tested for mono...if you've never had it.

Do you have dark circles under your eyes and are you sensitive to light by chance? I have severe Adrenal Exhaustion. You could have burned out your adrenals.

Raw Adrenal Caps (I use Solaray) 2 every morning, noon and bedtime (LOVE these)

Magnesium Citrate (200 mg) 1 in morning, 1 at noon

1000 Vit C morning, noon and bedtime

It can take a year to heal mild, 2 for severe.

Unfortunately there are numerous causes of fatigue. These are all good suggestions so far.

How long have you been gluten free? Knowing where you are in the healing process might help.

For me, lack of carb digestive enzymes (made in the villi) caused a lot of problems and prevented healing. After 15 mo I went on the SCD and got a lot of relief. But I also need Vit D, thyroid, B12 and B complex shots, magnesium and glutathione shots, plus other supplements to help with the symptoms.

Be sure you have your body levels checked, it helped to know what you are not absorbing. A GI panel to see if you are eliminating sugars in stool might indicate if you have the carb enzyme problem.

Thank you for all the suggestions! Now at least I have some idea of what to look for but there are so many possibilities that its overwhelming....I'm not sure where to begin.

Mother of Jibril, no I have not had a CBC but I definately am going to have that done soon. The only other symptom I can think of is that around the same time that this fatigue started, my appetite went way down also.

sickchick, I do not have sensitivity to light or dark circles under my eyes. should I still look into adrenal exhaustion as a possibility?

mftnchn, I have been gluten free for almost 3 years now so it doesnt seem like it is part of my healing process. i did get glutened by accident in august but not since then.

thanks again for all the help

You should check out glutathione PRECURSOR as that is the most effective way of raising GSH levels in our cells.

There is a predictive model for children on this link. Depends on sex, HLA genes and number of affected close relatives.  The model only goes up to age 12 so it would be interesting to know what the lifetime risk is. https://hputter.shinyapps.io/preventcd/

That is a very good point I do not know if they truly ever went down. With my nutrient levels all being good, CBC, metabolic panel I assumed everything was fine over the years. Now Im worried this is refractory celiac or something else

I don’t know how common it is, but it happens.  Total IgA going up is not necessarily celiac related.  The body can make IgA antibodies against all sort of things.   But if I understand correctly that until recently you haven’t had a celiac blood test since diagnosis, how do you know that your recent blood tests are a mild rise, vs never going down to the normal range? That also can happen, although not too common. Some people with celiac disease do react even to purity protocol certified gluten free oats. Removing oats from your diet for a few months and retesting is probably a good idea.

interesting I did not know that was that common or could take that long.  When I was diagnosed 15 yrs ago I was told just follow gluten-free diet and follow up with primary care doctor (who never checked celiac panel again). I felt way better and all the major symptoms went away. It wasn't until recently at 25 (14 yrs after diagnosis) that I thought to follow up with a gastro doctor who then did a celiac panel and noted those minor elevations 3 months ago then I got them checked again by another doctor the other week and were showing roughly the same thing.  I am very strict with what I eat and dieitican was maybe thinking it could be oat flour. I do eat a fair amount of processed food but I...

Do you have any other results from either of the two labs where you’ve been tested recently?  If so, are the newest results from that lab elevated over previous results? It took me 5 years to get all of my antibodies into the normal range. Then 3 years later one went up into the positive range.  I realized that I had started baking with a different brand of gluten free flour.  When I stopped using that flour the level went back to normal.  Has something changed in your diet, environment, activities, medications or other areas where you could possibly be exposed to gluten?
