Farmers Market Packaging Question

I live in Decatur, GA and there is a huge farmers market that i frequently visit. They carry a bunch of non-gluten grains & flours that are prepackaged. I spoke to a store manager and she said everything arrives in big boxes and they are then transfered to small containers for sale. They use scooper's and she said they wipe them off with a paper towel. She couldnt really give me a clear answer about allergies or cross contamination - she said there has never been a problem. I'm not sure what to do...they carry a whole variety of non-gluten grains and flowers and are relatively inexpensive compared to the regular stores. any thoughts? its frustrating cause the majority of the workers at the market are foreign so its difficult for me to have the type of conversation I want.

Yes, the scoops could cause cross-contamination if all they do is wipe them off with a paper towel between grains. Even though buying in bulk from open bins seems like a good idea in terms of price, the risk of cross-contamination is too high. Customers could also put the wrong scoops in the wrong bin and you would never know.

oh no the customers arent the ones doing the scooping, its the staff. all thats available to the customers are the plastic containers

i bought a large container of Quinoa- if i gave it a good wash would that remove any gluten present?

      @trents I am really not sure lol. I had a doctor who quit with no notice from 2 different practices and I was her patient both times, I just remember her telling me to take it. I guess for the dysphasia or Barrettes Esophagus? I have been taking it for years

      Forgive me if this has already been discussed. I couldn’t find another discussion about it. I was diagnosed with osteoporosis a couple of years ago after having been asymptomatic for celiac for decades. I ignored the celiac diagnosis because I had no issues, but I was ignorant to the long term damage. I am still asymptomatic, but after years of eating gluten I am now strictly gluten free. The osteoporosis has been improving after taking Fosamax the last couple of years. My question is…..has my body returned to normal bone production on its own now that it is not influenced by gluten? A new problem has surfaced. I have to stop taking Fosamax due to a vascular issue which requires me to take a daily aspirin. The aspirin mixed with Fosamax will increase the chance of internal bleeding and ulcers so I need to turn to Reclast, which I’m trying to avoid. I’m turning to you all to see if anyone knows if there is a chance that my body is back to normal bone production since it is not exposed to gluten. I’m going to ask my doctor if I can stop the Fosamax and take the aspirin until my bone scan next year. Any help is greatly appreciated!
