Old El Paso Salsa (mild)...safe ?

Ok, so I'm a big nacho fan. I used to munch on Tostitos & Old El Paso salsa but didn't feel well, got headaches, and some stomach cramps. Today I tried the plain Rice Works chips with that Old El Paso salsa and same thing ! Rice Works are labelled gluten free & I've never had issues with them. I was under the impression that the salsa was safe...is it ? Anyone else had issues ???

I'm thinking it's CC maybe...all out gluten also gives me nausea in addition to stomach cramps. CC usually makes me very tired and headachy...and achy...that Tylenol won't touch. :( Oh, and acid reflux...ugh.

Old El Paso will clearly disclose any gluten source in the ingredients. I don't know if the salsa is gluten-free as I don't use it and so don't have a label to look at. CC is always a possibility, though.

Unfortunately, we all need to remember that not all of our symptoms come from gluten. You might have a digestive issue with corn (very common). I can eat corn in some forms and not in others. I am able to tolerate the Tostitos Gold, but not the others. I can't eat a ton, but I can eat a handful. The corn in the Gold chips are ground up super fine. Or, you might not be able to handle the acid in the salsa...just a thought.

I don't believe I have an issue with corn, I do eat it at other times with no issues. Does anyone know of a salsa brand I can trust ???? I'm in Canada.

Can you get La Victoria? It states right on the bottle gluten free. Also 505 salsa states the same. Hope that helps.

Thanks Scott. They are gluten-free but cross contaminated.

Hi there @MCAyr I have a small umbilical hernia which came about during my second pregnancy.   I can just about see it, and feel it, when I stand or sit, but it is far less noticeable when I lie down.  I always know when I am putting on weight because I can get pain and burning near the site, funnily enough not on the hernia itself but either side!  I would imagine bloating could cause the same effect as weight gain. In my case I don't think it is my bowel protruding but a bit of fat  - sorry,  I realise this isn't painting a very pretty picture.  But in truth it is scarcely noticeable.  It has never really got bigger in size. I was rather hoping that it could be operated on but here in the UK they don't seem to operate on every hernia anymore.  My GP isn't remotely worried about it. In a way, I should be thankful - it is like an early warning system that I need to go on a diet! Cristiana

The hernia description would likely be unrelated to celiac disease, but you'd need to get it checked out by your doctor to be sure it's a hernia.
