Is This A Typical Reaction To A Gluten Slip?

I was diagnosed with celiac disease when I had a biopsy in November. Two (and probably three) of my children have celiac disease and when I started having intestinal issues for the first time in my life, I decided to get checked out. When I went gluten-free, most of the diarrhea stopped. A couple of days ago, I believe I made a mistake in eating some candy that may not have been gluten-free. Yesterday, I just felt bloated and uncomfortable, last night I had very bad diarrhea which continued today, and tonight I am vomiting. Is this a typical course when you are exposed to gluten? I feel horrible, but not horrible like I have the flu--just in my stomach. The candy I ate was from a candy store where they sell things out of bins. Probably a bad decision on my part and I'm paying for it big time!

Hi Yael and welcome :D

It sounds like a gluten reaction to me. Especially since you said that you didn't feel flu-ish. Vomiting isn't as common, but some have it and I know that myself, I don't vomit, but I get very nauesous along with my other symptoms.

The timing is also suspect for gluten, since you can identify a possible trigger--it makes sense.

      It can take longer than 6 months for antibodies to drop to the normal range,  My DGP IgA took a few years as I got stricter and stricter about being gluten free  But having symptoms again could also mean you’re getting some gluten in your diet.

      Hi, I just had my 6 month check after being diagnosed Celiac 6 months ago.  All of my panel numbers were normal except: Deamidated Gliadin Abs, IgA (It is 31 with high being over 30)  I have also been having symptoms again. Am I not actually being as careful as I think I am or does it take longer than 6 months for this particular test to come back down?  I can't get ahold of my doctor this week as she is out.     Thank you!

      That is very strange, because it looks to me like two very different test results, but for the same test! It's definitely time to contact your doctor for clarity on this.

      Scott, thank you SO MUCH for this!! She has been through so much in the last three years as we've tried to track down answers. This language will definitely help me help her to reframe.
