Hi,

I was wondering if some of you ladies could give some insight. I've missed two my periods and the last period I had was in mid-November. It concerns me, considering my periods are extremely painful w/ heavy bleeding, lasting always 7+ days then suddenly there's nothing. For the past month and a half, I've experienced severe lower right abdomen pain and severe pelvic pain, that sometimes goes into the small of my back. Could this possibly be an ovarian cyst? There's no chance of pregnancy, as I've never been sexually active.

I've also gained 20 lbs and had a bladder infection. I just went in Friday for blood work and an X-ray.

Any thoughts would be appreciated :]

-Ash.

I'm just spitting out ideas

Is the pain between periods? I would expect that an ovarian cyst would hurt more with ovulation - about two weeks before your period.

Does it hurt more during your period? If so, you might want to consider endometriosis.

Did your bladder infection get cleared completely? Could it have moved into your kidney?

My niece has PCOS and she has ovarian cysts that burst. She describes it as a terrible pain that before her dx, seemed more like sudden pain. She ended up in the ER several times as they guessed it might be appendix.

When my mom was having UTI's it would sometimes worsen to cause very bad back pain. So I wonder also if your infection is causing that.

As for the periods, how long have you been gluten-free? Could that have any connection to the break in menstruation?

It's certainly worth visiting your gynecologist for a checkup as it can be a number of things including endometriosis, bladder issues/infections as mentioned. Appendicitis can also cause pain in your lower right quadrant. Thyroid issues can cause heavy or erratic bleeding. Cysts can be very painful all the time, some of the time or not at all.

It could also be fibroid tumors. I hate to mention this, but have them do an ultrasound to see. That should also show an ovarian cyst. If you tell them what has been going on, they should order this for you without too much hemming and hawing.

Good luck!

I have had both uterine fibroids and ovarian cysts (at different times) and must say that the fibroids gave me heavy bleeding. The pain for both of these were a pullling sensation in my lower abdomen and pain in my upper thighs (where leg meets torso). It also "pulled" in abdomen when I rolled over in bed at night.

Sounds like you need a good gyn workup (sonograms with bloodwork including checking your estrogen levels).

Hi Ashley.

A few years back I suffered from a cyst on my ovary. The pain was very regular, as were my periods, and the cyst did not seem to interfere with the regularity of them at all. The pain would occur midway through my cycle like clockwork, it would start from the back and by the next day the pain would've moved to my right front, and would be very debilitating for a couple of days, then disappear altogether only to come back mid way through my next cycle.

Hope you have your answers soon.

Cathy

Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.
