Missing Bread/pasta

I'm really missing regular wheat bread and I just wanted to know if anyone knows of any really yummy gluten-free breads/pastas. Some of the ones I've tried have been not so appetizing. Help!

Kinnikinnik breads and other goodies are great. Wholefoods Bakery brand breakds and goodies are also real good.

I like DeBoles pastas!

I've had Kinnikinnik breads, and so far they are the best. But I was just wondering about others... OH AND WHAT ABOUT PIZZA??!?! any good tips?! :D

Manna from Anna has a wonderful bread mix. It is the closest thing to "real bread" that I have found. It actually TOASTS for a grilled cheese!! Awesome stuff. :D

Took the advice from this message board and ordered from Kinnikinnick.com and ordered the sandwich bread and donuts. The bread is better than any I have had so far, actually had sandwiches for the first time since going gluten-free. The donuts are very heavy, one is all you can eat at a time. I got the maple glazed and chocolate glazed. Not quite like going to a donut store, but better than not having donuts at all. I also ordered hamburger buns. They are quite good too. First time I have had a real burger too. It is very expensive, however. For two half loaves of sandwich bread, 8 hamburger buns and 12 donuts, it came to $30 and $10 shipping. I doubt I will order the donuts again, but I do think I will order the bread again sometime.

I like the doughnuts. They ARE heavy, can double as a paperweight is what I always say. However, I think they taste really good!! If you were a doughnut lover before I think you would like them.

I also like the Ener-G doughnuts holes. They aren't bad.

Best Bread - Sterk's, then Kinnikinnick (I've never tried Manna from Anna) Sterk's is good because it is vaccum packed, no freezing! and it tastes great! umm

I love Kinnikinnick brand of bread. The Doughnuts are good in my opinion...I like the chocolate glazed.

I love Foods By George English muffins. They come in plain and cinnamon. I like to toast them and but cream cheese or butter and cinnamon on them and they are delicious. I eat them almost every day.

Tinkyada is by far the best pasta that they make. When my mom cooks she uses that and the rest of the family doesnt even know!!! Also not sure if you are on Long Island but a really great Italian Restaruant uses it! :D

I've been living on Thai kitchen soup bowls for about a month, and i love them but I really would love some spaghetti!!! and a huge slice of pizza. I will definitely try all of these things! Thanks so much! :D

I love Tinkyada pasta, when I cook with it, no one else realizes it's gluten free! I made a chicken pasta dish for dinner tonight and my hubby who is not gluten-free, ate two huge helpings of it!

for bread I really like Kinnikinick breads and Whole Foods gluten-free bakehouse breads and goodies.

for pizza I get Amy's Organics Rice Crust Cheese Pizza, top it with extra mozzerella cheese, garlic powder, Gluten Free Pantry's Italian seasoning blend, and whatever other toppings I'm in the mood for like Hormel Pepperoni, or sliced mushrooms, black olives, cooked hamburger meat, green peppers, red peppers, onions, pineapples, whatever! After it's done baking, my daughter laughs when I ring the doorbell, pretend it's delivery and yell "Pizza's Here"!!!!! :D:D:D

I have had Tinkyada pasta, i went to my cupboard to see what kind of pasta i had and that's what it was. I made cheesy mac and cheese with the little elbows. It was great!! Better than Kraft ;)

yeah, I think Tinkyada pasta is the bestest! When I make mac and cheese I use the small elbows or shells, and after it's cooked and drained I add milk, butter, and slices of Kraft Deli Select American Cheese... YUMMMMMMMMM!!!!! That's another dish that my non gluten-free hubby will scarf down!

My son really likes Original White Bread the mix from The Great Tasting Food Company it is sooo easy to make, we made it with sandwiches, toasted with butter and french toast, all were great it seems to be very versitile. We have also made their brownies and last night I made their lemon poppy cake mix into muffins they were really light and so good my whole family ate them.

Also Foods by George makes really great individual pizzas. They are small but really good.

Their english muffins are really good and very soft. If you like rice cakes, my son uses plain ones or lightly salted and puts sause and melts mozz. cheese on it in the toaster oven and has a little pizza snack.

We have used the Knicknick (sp)? english muffins as hamburger buns and I also made them into garlic bread the other day very yummy.

We are also new to this, not quite 3 weeks and I have gotten so many ideas from this board. Everyone is so helpful....I guess we all know what it's like to be new and have no idea what to eat.

Keep reading, I've found helpful things in each of the topics.

If money is a real issue (it is in our household) and you like breads, try milling your own grains and making your own breads. It is significantly cheaper in the long run. I answered some extensive questions in another post on the milling topic. You should be able to find it by doing a search.

      @rei.b,  I understand how frustrating starting a new way of eating can be.  I tried all sorts of gluten-free processed foods and just kept feeling worse.  My health didn't improve until I started the low histamine AIP diet.  It makes a big difference.   Gluten fits into opioid receptors in our bodies.  So, removing gluten can cause withdrawal symptoms and reveals the underlying discomfort.  SIBO can cause digestive symptoms.  SIBO can prevent vitamins from being absorbed by the intestines.  Thiamine insufficiency causes Gastrointestinal Beriberi (bloating, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea or constipation).  Thiamine is the B vitamin that runs out first because it can only be stored for two weeks.  We need more thiamine when we're sick or under emotional stress.  Gastric Beriberi is under recognised by doctors.  An Erythrocyte Transketolace Activity test is more accurate than a blood test for thiamine deficiency, but the best way to see if you're low in thiamine is to take it and look for health improvement.  Don't take Thiamine Mononitrate because the body can't utilize it well.  Try Benfotiamine.  Thiamine is water soluble, nontoxic and safe even at high doses.  I thought it was crazy, too, but simple vitamins and minerals are important.  The eight B vitamins work together, so a B Complex, Benfotiamine,  magnesium and Vitamin D really helped get my body to start healing, along with the AIP diet.  Once you heal, you add foods back in, so the AIP diet is worth doing for a few months. I do hope you'll consider the AIP diet and Benfotiamine.

      Imemsm, Most of us have experienced discontinued, not currently available or products that suddenly become seasonal.   My biggest fear about relocating from Maryland to Florida 5 years ago, was being able to find gluten-free foods that fit my restricted diet.  I soon found out that the Win Dixie and Publix supper markets actually has 99% of their gluten-free foods tagged, next to the price.  The gluten-free tags opened up a  lot of foods that aren't actually marked gluten-free by the manufacture.  Now I only need to check for my other dietary restrictions.  Where my son lives in New Hartford, New York there's a Hannaford Supermarket that also has a gluten-free tag next to the price tag.  Hopefully you can locate a Supermarket within a reasonable travel distance that you can learn what foods to check out at a Supermarket close to you.  I have dermatitis herpetiformis too and I'm very sensitive to gluten and the three stores I named were very gluten-free friendly.  Good Luck

      Okay well the info about TTG-A actually makes a lot of sense and I wish the PA had explained that to me. But yes, I would assume I would have intestinal damage from eating a lot of gluten for 32 years while having all these symptoms. As far as avoiding gluten foods - I was definitely not doing that. Bread, pasta, quesadillas (with flour tortillas) and crackers are my 4 favorite foods and I ate at least one of those things multiple times a day e.g. breakfast with eggs and toast, a cheese quesadilla for lunch, and pasta for dinner, and crackers and cheese as a before bed snack. I'm not even kidding.  I'm not really big on sugar, so I don't really do sweets. I don't have any of those conditions.  I am not sure if I have the genes or not. When the geneticist did my genetic testing for EDS this year, I didn't think to ask for him to request the celiac genes so they didn't test for them, unfortunately.  I guess another expectation I had is  that if gluten was the issue, the gluten-free diet would make me feel better, and I'm 3 months in and that hasn't been the case. I am being very careful and reading every label because I didn't want to screw this up and have to do gluten-free for longer than necessary if I end up not having celiac. I'm literally checking everything, even tea and anything else prepacked like caramel dip. Honestly its making me anxious 😅

      So you're saying that you think you should have severe intestinal damage since you've had the symptoms so long?   DGP IgG antibodies are produced in response to a partial gluten molecule.  This is different than what tissue transglutaminase antibodies are  produced in response to.   TTg IgA antibodies are produced in the intestines in response to gluten.  The tTg IgA antibodies attack our own cells because a structural component in our cell membranes resembles a part of gluten.  There's a correlation between the level of intestinal damage with the level of tTg antibodies produced.  You are not producing a high number of tTg IgA antibodies, so your level of tissue damage in your intestines is not very bad.  Be thankful.   There may be reasons why you are not producing a high quantity of tTg IgA antibodies.  Consuming ten grams or more of gluten a day for two weeks to two months before blood tests are done is required to get sufficient antibody production and damage to the intestines.  Some undiagnosed people tend to subconsciously avoid lots of gluten.  Cookies and cakes do not contain as much gluten as artisan breads and thick chewy pizza crust.  Anemia, diabetes and thiamine deficiency can affect IgA antibody production as well.   Do you carry genes for Celiac?  They frequently go along with EDS.

      I was tested for celiac at the same time, so I wasn't taking naltrexone yet. I say that, because I don't. The endoscopy showed some mild inflammation but was inconclusive as to celiac disease. They took several biopsies and that's all that was shown. I was not given a Marsh score.
