Can your primary care physician test you for Celiac disease or do you have to go to a gastro-intestinal doctor?

Your PCP can test you. Ask for the complete celiac panel. I don't have the names of the tests saved, but others do and I'm sure they'll post them for you.

Here is the Celiac Blood Panel--ask that they do all the tests:

Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA

Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG

Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA

Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA

Total Serum IgA

My husband and I made appointments with a Gastroenterologist, and we're going to ask him to test us. Do you think we should have made an appointment with a PCP instead? We don't have one right now, and with our insurance plan (PPO) we can go to any type of doctor we want without a referral.

No, I don't think so at all
