What Did I Eat Wrong

Tonight I made plain chicken, with homemade fried rice. I used white rice, some oil, frozen veggies,Bragg liquid amino, and eggs. None of those things bothered me before. I looked up the Bragg product and everywhere says it's gluten free. However, I'm achy, sour stomach and feel like I ate a piece of toast. I'm not usually so sensitive that I have to be strict about cross contamination at home so I'm not sure what's going on. Maybe the longer you're gluten free the more sensitive to it that you get?

Thanks

Do you think it could have been the rice? Below is a link I found last year. It is not up to date but some of the information about rice in general may be helpfull.

Open Original Shared Link

Is the pan you made the fried rice in shared with others that eat/cook gluten?

The Frozen Veggies that you used -- are they gluten free? Some have sauces in them that are not safe or processed in a facility that also processes wheat.

Did you start to feel sick right after eating? There could be a possibility that you were reacting to something you ate during the last 24hours. Some people react quickly and some people it can take 1-2 days to hit them.

You are correct when you said:

"Maybe the longer you're gluten free the more sensitive to it that you get?"

Hope some of this was helpfull.

Hope you feel better and can figure out what was/is bothering you. Good Luck

Thank you for the reply. I actually didn't even think to look at the veggies, and the rice I used is from Aldis and have never had a problem with it before. I did however use an older pan I have not used since going gluten-free, didn't even think of that either. I will need to get rid of it.

I also did use a Chinese mixed spice that I don't think I've used before. It was pretty instant that my stomach started grumbling from it.

Hello. Do you mind saying what symptoms led the doctors to test for bacteria in your blood?

So you you ate wheat products every single day for 50 years without a problem but then in the 90's you discovered that wheat was your problem. That's confusing to me. It seems contradictory. Did you have a problem or not?

I spent my first 50 years eating wheat products every single day with no ill affects. Being a 6’2” Italian you can imagine what my diet was like and believe me I had an appetite that wouldn’t quit. In the 90’s once I discovered the wheat was my problem I avoided it and no longer had IBS.  I seriously doubt I have celiac but I appreciate your input and will let you know if I have a problem with wheat again. I’ve been eating things I’ve longed for for decades and have never felt better.

I would say two things and then I'm done. Many celiacs have been misdiagnosed for years with IBS. Testing for celiac disease requires regular and significant consumption of gluten for weeks/months in order to be valid.

Can the rest of your household eat the food with gluten instead of getting rid of it? Can you create one shelf, or partial shelf, for your new food in the pantry, in the fridge and in the cabinets as a start? My husband is not gluten free so we each have a cabinet, and separate shelves in the fridge. If we have to share space the gluten free foods go on the upper shelves so crumbs with gluten can’t fall onto them. Good luck!
