hi

am just new to this site i live in the uk

ive been losing weight and my appetite seems to have shrunk i get full up easily, bloated, alot of gas, some pain, my toilet (not being crude) seems normal apart from constipation sometimes and occassional diarrohea.

i have this itchy rash on my stomach for (yrs) that seems to get worse after eating certain foods. id get terrible chest pains if i eat brown bread especially.

i asked for a celiac/coliac blood test i think she only did 1x antibody test but ive heard theres more to test (Endomysial Antibody Test, Tissue Transglutaminase Antibody Test, Anti-Gliadin Antibody Test, and Total Serum Test)

it came back negative. so im not sure what to do now?

i havent been referred to a gastroenterologist or anyone. i would like to know if it is celiac/coliac disease

can any1 advse who would i be reffered to and whats the next action i should take? someone mentioned a colonoscopy, but i think as my toilet is more or less normal would the gastroentorologist not say there was no need for a colonoscopy. or should i ask for more blood tests?

i dont want to just exclude gluten until i know for sure that it was celiac/coliac disease

help plz?

Let's start with the skin. Dermatitis Herpetiformis (DH) Open Original Shared Link is a comparatively common side effect of celiac (coeliac) disease. If the description at the link above sounds like what you're experiencing or if any of the following look like what you're experiencing Open Original Shared Link you might want to visit a dermatologist first. On the bright side, the Merck Manual link does not mention outbreaks on the stomach. A friend of mine has a similar problem, especially in wintertime and during periods of stress. He has added Omega 3 to his diet (he's vegetarian); I think it's been helping him. Just something to think about.

The digestive symptoms you are describing could be celiac/coeliac, but could be a lot of other things as well. As you're in a country with free universal health care, I'd recommend following up until you get to the bottom of it. If you want to try the gluten-free diet, though, it's not really all that hard. If you try it for two weeks, you should be able to tell whether it's going to make a difference. As will be pointed out to you shortly, though, you can't get an official medical diagnosis via biopsy without continuing to eat gluten. (Apparently, somebody forgot the part of the Hippocratic Oath about first doing no harm.)

Oh, coeliac.org.uk: Open Original Shared Link This seems to be the most useful part: Open Original Shared Link They do not appear to have a forum or discussion board.

Good luck, and I hope you find all your answers.

Hi Everyone,  I do appreciate your replies to my original post.   Here is where I am now in this journey.  I am currently seeing a Naturopath.  One thing I did not post before is that I take Esomeprazole for GERD.  My Naturopath believes that the decrease in the gastric acid has allowed the yeast to grow.    She has put me on some digestive enzymes.  She also put me on Zinc, Selenium, B 12, as she felt that I was not absorbing my vitamins. I am about 5 weeks into this treatment, and I am feeling better. I did not have any trouble taking the Fluconazole.

I'm sure it's chemically perfect. Most of them taste lousy!

Hi @JulieRe.  I just found your post.  It seems that I am also experiencing thrush, and my doctor believes that I have fungal overgrowth in my gut, which is most likely candida.  I'm seeing my GI doctor next week, so I'm hoping she can diagnose and confirm this and then give me an antifungal treatment.  In the meantime, I have been working with a functional medicine doctor, doing a candida cleanse and taking vitamins. It's already helping to make me feel better (with some ups and downs, of course), so I do think the yeast is definitely a problem for me on top of my celiac disease and I'm hoping my GI doctor can look into this a bit further.  So, how about you?  Did the candida come back, or is it still gone following your fluconazole treatment?  Also, was it awful to take fluconazole?  I understand that taking an antifungal can cause a reaction that sometimes makes people feel sick while they're taking it.  I hope you're doing better still !

I'm so sorry you're going through this—the "gluten challenge" is notoriously brutal, and it's awful to deliberately make yourself sick when you've already found the answer. For the joint pain, many people find that over-the-counter anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen can help take the edge off, and using heating pads or warm baths can provide some direct relief for the aches. For the digestive misery, stick to simple, easy-to-digest foods (like plain rice, bananas, and bone broth) and drink plenty of water and electrolytes to stay hydrated. It feels like the longest month ever, but you are doing the right thing to get a clear diagnosis, which can be crucial for your long-term health and getting the proper care. Hang in there; you can get through this! This article, and the comments below it, may be helpful:

Daura Damm (a sponsor here) uses AN-PEP enzymes and filtering in their brewing process to reduce/remove gluten, and it actually tests below 10ppm (I've see a document where they claim 5ppm).
