Positive Iga, Negative Igg

Hi there,

Our three year old son came back with a 38 ttg iga (with anything above a 9 as positive) and a negative ttg igg which confuses me a bit.

We asked the doc to run a series of tests on our son because he had stomach flu like syptoms for a two week stretch, then constipation, then a three week stretch of the stomach flu.

Now he seems fine...did any of you present like this? Any thoughts on the neg. igg? We see the GI specialist Monday. Any specific questions I should ask?

Thank you!

The various Celiac tests do not have a 100% correlation, which is why there isn't one "perfect" test, but the tTG IgA is a pretty specific/sensitive test. You may want to discuss a follow up endoscopy with biopsy.

Hi Renee,

Sorry this is a little late, but I did want to comment on the negative IGG. I am a gold star celiac and have always had a very negative IGG in everything. I believe I may be IGG deficient as my daughter is. I discussed testing for IGG deficiency with my doctor but decided the only benefit of knowing would be to do IVIG treatments which I would not want to do. Instead I have my doctor check a lot of different areas for vitamin deficiencies and try to supplement to keep me healthy.

2 of my 3 children had high TTG/IGA and all were diagnosed with Celiac. My third did not have positive TTG's and is the one that is IGG and IMG deficent and a challange sent her into a major iron, ferritin, saturation deficiency with all Celiac symptoms returning so she was also dx with Celiac and DH.

I am sure I had Celiac all my life which caused many symptoms throughout childhood. The same is true for my children so I hope you consider the gluten free diet to prevent any unwanted health issues. I would also suggest you get all family members checked as they could also have silent Celiac Disease.

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
