Any Ideas? Having A Major Moment I To Reacted Corn Potatoes White Rice

I am having a MAJOR moment because this morning i reacted to corn, it was whole corn, not flour. I have been on an elimination diet and so far corn, potatoes, gluten, white rice and bananas. I think i am reacting to starches. But sweet potatoes seems to be fine, Any ideas? I have reacted to 3 of the 4 things i tried. I am hungry and getting sick of steak and mushroom for breakfast lunch and dinner.

The corn wasnt as bad reaction as the pototoes. I react to corn the same way i react to bananas so weird. My aunt has a problem with fructose (a type of sugar) and bananas is the only fruit that is fine for that! I thjnk my problem maybe with starches

I react to processed corn (i.e. in gluten-free breakfast cereals), but not to any kinds of potatoes. Sorry to say I have no idea why! Have you gotten allergy tested? What kind of reaction do you have?

hi, the reaction is just diarrhea. It was corn on the cob, not processed.

Potatoes give me a bad stomach ache then diarrhea really bad, i get lots of other symptoms with potatoes.

I am getting blood tests for common allergies. Results are back on monday or tuesday. :-)

Corn and potatoes (nightshade family--you will often react to tomatoes, peppers, aubergine also) are very common intolerances along with gluten. I have read of a few people on here who react to rice, and some to bananas. Sometimes these intolerances are temporary and you will be able to eat these things later once you have healed. Sweet potatoes are a good and nutritious starch, although you can get tired of them (I know!) Do you react to any other fruits and vegetables? Can you eat chicken and fish? Steak and mushrooms is really not an adequate diet, as you know. Can you eat something like kiwifruit? frozen blueberries? On your elimination diet what have you not reacted to?

I'd love to eat steak for breakfast, lunch and dinner but I'm a huge red meat eater. I've tested low on amino acids so my nutritionist told me to eat more red meat. Now is she'd said eat more chicken I would have been in trouble.

Hang in, try to find a few foods that do not bother you. Stay with those so your digestive system can rest and start to heal. Take your time introducing new foods and wait a few day in between introducing the next new food.

It was a test for Common food allergies.

That is the problem i am having trying to find food i dont react too! I have tried 4 things and reacted to 3. So i wanted some direction as to what i should try next and maybe what i should avoid for a while as i might react to it.

No, I'm sorry, I should have put a comma after corn; did not intend to imply it was a nightshade. Funny, I can eat the corn in New Zealand, but not in U.S.; think it has something to do with the genetic modification. It is hard to keep corn out, and soy, along with the gluten. I went to a restaurant the other night and there was only one thing I could have on the menu, a salad, and I had to ask them to take the grapefruit out. :o Everything else had gluten, corn, cream, tomato, potato, citric acid of some kind. AND they wouldn't cook the steak without the flour!!! :(

Sorry you're having these problems! I can relate, unfortunately.

I'm starting to think I need to avoid ALL grains (rice, corn, sorghum, millet, etc...). I've heard this from a lot of people on this board, especially the people on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. You might be interested in this....it's the diet people have turned to when the gluten-free dairy-free diet isn't working as well as they expected it to.

Dairy and lactose I am not sure of. I have been lactose free for 3 months and completely gluten free for 7 months. I have just gone off deadly nightshade for about a week. Is your elimination diet being guided by an allergist? The reason I ask it because you state you are still consuming dairy products. This is going to seem hard but you need to eliminate the butter and the milk. You may have an issue with casein and your reactions to other foods may not be reactions to those foods but to the dairy that you have not deleted. You also should not be adding foods back in until the reactions are totally resolved. You also need to add in those foods one at a time for a week without butter or other condiments.

thanks for that. i have already gone off all dairy, and tested butter and lactose free milk, they both seem to be fine. I have gone off all other dairy though. All i am using is a little bit of butter some days and lactose free milk in my decaf every day. I those two items are ok because my no 2 get solid again even when i eat them. But I will do another test just in case. I like to test things twice if i can.

I am trying to work out which vegs are lower in fibre in starch to test next any ideas?

      @catnapt,  Wheat germ contains high amounts of lectins which are really hard to digest and can be irritating to the digestive tract.  They can stimulate IgG antibody production as your blood test shows.   Even beans have lectins.  You've simply eaten too many lectins and irritated your digestive tract.   You may want to allow your digestive tract to rest for a week, then start on gluten in "normal" food, not in concentrated vital wheat gluten.       I take Now B-1 (100 mg) Thiamine Hydrochloride, and Amazing Formulas L-Tryptophan (1000 mg).   Both are gluten free and free of other allergens.  I've taken them for a long time and haven't had a problem with them. I take Vitamin A from BioTech called "A-25".  It's gluten and allergen free and made in the USA.  It's a powder form of Vitamin A.  I was having trouble digesting fats at one point, but found I tolerated the powder form much better and have stuck with it since.   Tryptophan and Vitamin A help heal the intestines as well as improves skin health.  I get Dermatitis Herpetiformis and eczema flairs when my stomach is upset.  So I'm healing the outside as well as the inside.   I take one 1000 mg Tryptophan before bedtime.   With the Thiamine HCl, take 100 mg to start.  If you don't notice anything, three hours later take another. You can keep increasing your dose in this manner until you do notice improvement.  Remember not to take it in the evening so it won't keep you too energized to sleep. When I first started Thiamine HCl, taking 500 mg to 1000 mg to start was recommended.  If you've been thiamine insufficient for a while, you do notice a big difference.  It's like the start of a NASCAR race: Zoom, Zoom, turn it up!   This scared or made some people uncomfortable, but it's just your body beginning to function properly, like putting new spark plugs in your engine.  I took 1000 mg all at once without food.  It kicked in beautifully, but I got a tummy ache, so take with food.  I added in Thiamine TTFD and Benfotiamine weeks later and felt like I was Formula One racing.  So cool.  You may feel worse for a couple days as your body adjusts to having sufficient thiamine.  Feels sort of like you haven't cranked your engine for a while and it backfires and sputters, but it will settle down and start purring soon enough.  Adjust your dose to what feels right for you, increasing your dose as long as you feel improvement.  You can reach a plateau, so stay there for several days, then try bumping it up again.  If no more improvements happen, you can stay at the plateau amount and experiment with increasing your Thiamine TTFD.  It's like being your own lab rat.  LoL Yes, take one Benfotiamine at breakfast and one at lunch.  Take the B Complex at breakfast. Take the TTFD at breakfast and lunch as well.  I like to take the vitamins at the beginning of meals and the NeuroMag at the end of meals.   You may want to add in some zinc.  I take Thorne Zinc 30 mg at breakfast at the beginning of the meal.   Are you getting sufficient Omega Threes?  Our brains are made up mostly of fat.  Flaxseed oil supplements, sunflower seed oil supplements (or eat the seeds themselves) can improve that.  Cooking with extra virgin olive oil, avocado oil, or coconut oil is also helpful.   @Wheatwacked likes phosphotidyl choline supplements for his Omega Threes.  He's also had dramatic health improvement by supplementing thiamine.  You're doing great!  Thank you for sharing your journey with us.  This path will smooth out.  Keep going!

      good luck! vital wheat gluten made me violently ill. I will touch the stuff ever again.

      I wouldn't consider this lucky. I can NOT tolerate the symptoms. And I googled it and I was not even getting 10 grams of gluten per day and I was extremely ill. They'd have to put me in the hospital. I'm not kidding.   I will have my first appt with a GI dr on March 4th   I will not eat gluten again - at least not on purpose   they are going to have to come up with a test that doesn't require it.

      What Thiamine Hydrochloride brand do you take? Is it like the other vitamins I have added? What brand Tryptophan and amount do you take. Thanks
