Think I Might Have Celiac

Hello Eveyone!

I'm new to the forum, this is my first post.

I've been having gut issues for about 2 years. They all started shortly after I had been travelling (to Mexico), and developed afterwards. I was also in a very stressful relationship at this time, and I've read that celiac disease can be triggered by stressful life events.

I've had stool samples and blood tests months ago to rule out blood parasites, worms, etc. My doctor said the results were perfectly fine. My guts have been frequently loud after eating and I pass gas a lot, and I had been dealing with frequent diarhhea most of the time. He diagnosed me with IBS, and I left it at that for a while. I started eating metamucil fibre bars every day just to try and keep my stool together, but recently they seem to be slowly losing their effectiveness.

So finally, I decided to cut out gluten for a while. I've started eating gluten-free 10 days ago, and felt a million times better. My guts were quiet and not "churning" after meals, I rarely pass gas much, and my stools are starting to be held together well without taking any fibre supplements. I also feel like I can concentrate better and have been less tired.

However, over the last 2 days I have (knowingly) consumed some gluten. First was a tiny wrap with lunchmeat in it, which I felt nauseaous after eating. Yesterday I was at a Halloween party and had appetizers that I knew were gluten-filled. My guts were noisy last night and this morning and I have been quite flatulant, also I feel like I can't concentrate well today. I haven't had any D yet, but I fear that may be coming.

I've finally demanded blood tests from my doctor, and he's getting my IgA and tTG tested (though I think there should be more tests). Having stopped eating gluten for such a short period, would sufficient antibodies still most likely be present in my body for these tests? Knowing that I have had wheat yesterday, but not today as of yet. I will probably be getting my blood tests on Tuesday.

Thanks for any input.

Hello

I am new to this forum as well. After alot of stomach problems, my doctor said it was IBS, so I was at the mercy of my stomach (much like what you described plus a nawing, aching feeling in my stomach. I ended up (recently) seeing a GI specialist who did a blood test and an endoscopy that were both positive. I got the positive blood test almost 2 weeks ago and the confirmation (endoscopy less than a week ago). I have gone gluten free and still not feeling well, but maybe it takes some time. I would suggest to your DR that an endoscopy may be a good idea, but then again.... it sounds like the proof is in what you were eating. No gluten--feeling better.... add gluten... not so good. GOOD LUCK!!

The Lindt (Lindor) dairy-free oat milk truffles are definitely gluten-free, and (last time I checked) so are the white chocolate truffles and the mint chocolate truffles.

I've used magnesium taurinate and magnesium taurate vitamins.  Didn't notice much of a difference when I used them.

More great tips, and a good excuse to shop at M&S and also buy more iced buns!   I wish we had an ASDA near us, as the few times we've been to one their gluten-free pasta range seemed very reasonably priced compared to other shops.  Thanks so much, @Russ H.
